Labeling Others

I once took a psychology course in college. While learning about various common disorders, I couldn't help but secretly label my friends and family. I noticed my brother had behaviors and traits similar to someone with borderline personality disorder. My best friend had narcissistic tendencies. I diagnosed myself with some OCD. Listening to Brian Basterfield's audiobook felt the same as that psychology class. I found myself looking around at my friends and family and identifying the masks they wear. My daughter is a chameleon. My brother-in-law wears the rebel mask. My father is an influencer. But unlike that psychology class, this book gives tangible ways to deal with various masks and how to approach and communicate with different types of people. The audiobook has real-world applications for the relationships we have in our lives.

Interesting and Informative

I often refer to myself as a recovering people-pleaser! Little did I know it was one of 19 masks many people wear. I should also call myself a recovering perfectionist, as both traits were strongly imbedded into my psyche. 19 Masks People Wear by Brian Basterfield not only talks about the People pleasing mask and the Perfectionist mask but also 17 other masks. The book is informative and offers tools that help overcome these particular issues. Identifying your mask or masks is just the first step in moving forward to becoming a better you.

Reflecting on my own life!

In one of the chapters that explored the different types of masks people wear, I found myself reflecting on my own life. It was intriguing to see how various masks, like the "perfectionist" or the "people-pleaser," could resonate with my experiences. This insight prompted me to think about my interactions with others and how I could better understand the masks they wear. Brennan Koenigsreuter's narration was engaging.
