Publisher's summary

While singleness is often widely misunderstood by many in the church today and often viewed in negative terms, the Bible speaks about it very differently. This book sets forth a positive vision of singleness by responding to seven common misconceptions, such as the notion that singleness is too hard, requires a special spiritual gift, is a hindrance to ministry, or is a waste of sexuality. Addressed to the church as a whole and written by a single pastor, 7 Myths About Singleness will help listeners better understand, support, and empower the singles around them to contribute to the flourishing of the church as a whole.

Beneficial for all

This book does more than debunk the myths about singleness. It challenges the listener's perspective on several topics that shape humanity by providing a biblical outlook. It is written to benefit all, no matter their marital status. A good listen.

Gave me a renewed and biblical view on singleness

All around a fantastic listen. I just put it on every time I drove and listened through it in less than a week

Good to read while you're single!

I like the way in which Sam Allberry explains the difficulties of both sides (singleness and marriage) not letting one better than the other. He's very open and sincere to tell about his struggles, and that gets even closer to the heart.
I've heard some of his preachings and I've discovered a treasure in him. He's a great Pastor!

So Helpful

This is an amazing book! I listen to this book after my engagement ended, and it gave amazing encouragement and helped me dive deeper into God’s word. Highly suggest listening to it along side the RZIM Cover to Cover podcast.

Good to read whether single or not!

Helpful for me to read on Valentine’s Day this year. 😉 But truly, I appreciate the reminders Allberry writes about my highest calling- to know God and glorify Him regardless of my marital status.

Married people, please read! If you know even ONE single person, this will help you love them better. At least to know what well meant but hurtful things to stop saying to us single people. No matter who we are, if we are part of the family of God, we have been given gifts that benefit our brothers and sisters in Christ. To say I’m incomplete as single is to literally say Jesus was not fully human. Be careful.

Personally, i loved his point about Jesus’ teaching that obedience is worth more than any physical children I could ever have. It’s easy to bemoan my current singleness as years slipping away from me that I am able to bear children. As if by worrying about it I will suddenly find the man of my dreams, and start a family. But what is my deepest desire in all that? It reveals an idol of marriage and motherhood. Although I can’t know whether I will get married, I do believe I will. But in God’s perfect timing. And in the meantime, I get to invest in spiritual children right where I am. What a blessing. I’m thankful to Allberry to help me see that so clearly.

Honest and intense

I appreciate how he is honest about his own struggles with maintaining joy amidst celibacy. I do ultimately believe, as he does, but the reality is it is a hard road to walk. There are also a lot of other realities that he puts out in the book and you’ll have to read it to find out more!

Wonderful addition to the conversation

I greatly appreciated hearing a side of the conversation that I live, but don’t hear other people talking about. I am looking forward to sharing the book with family and friends who have been concerned for me, as well as people who are raising their children. This gives good perspective on how Good God always is, in every circumstance, and how we can support each other better.

Honest and Loving

This book is so refreshingly honest and so much of what Sam’s written is personal and relatable. It’s also loving to both single and married folks who need to hear and remember that we are for each other in community. Thanks for writing from your heart.

helpful for all

It was convicting to me as a single, and Sam wrote things that made me think how to be a better person as a single. He also wrote things that I wished everyone would know and think about. Two points: everyone has be single and maybe single again; both singleness and marriage have their great parts and their hard parts.
