About this listen

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde was first published in 1866 and has gone on to become one of the most told Gothic stories of all time.

In this new recording, Paapa Essiedu breathes new life into the classic tale.

Robert Louis Stevenson's dark psychological fantasy follows a respectable London lawyer as he investigates the strange relationship between his old friend Dr Henry Jekyll and the evil Edward Hyde.

Its sensitive portrayal of man's dual nature is moving, beautiful and terrifying in equal measure.

The narrator is excellent. The story is good but felt like it was missing an actual storyline. It seemed to end abruptly and left me thinking, “That’s it?” Overall it is enjoyable and thought-provoking, and I wish there were more to it.

That’s it?

That is performed by a super talented narrator, who could not be more perfect for the part.

I enjoyed the story it was a classic I had wanted to listen to. Though I was surprised that Jekyll and Hyde aren’t day and night. I thought Jekyll didn’t know about Hyde.

Good story, wish it was a longer story

I really did enjoy this from start to finish. I really enjoyed Jekyll’s last letter describing what he had done and the nature of his duality. How at first he was able to separate his good nature from that of Hyde’s when he transformed or so he claimed. However as it went on you could see his dilemma and how it presented him with an even bigger problem that lead to his demise. I enjoyed the narrator as well! I added this version to my favorites!

It captures you as most classics do!

I'm sure the story was great for it's time but really just hinges on curiosity.
This is what happens when people overstep their bounds - even though well-meaning, some of the actions of the characters were unwarranted and pretty much contributed to the mess that the main character was in.

Great narration, meh story

riveting account of the duality of man. Stevenson is a master of invoking pity for man’s lower nature. In it, the reader can feel the fight between the two beasts as well of the need to feed one beast over another.

GREAT STORY
