A good listen

Except for some overlong pauses between chapters, I thoroughly enjoyed the quality of Susannah Harker's reading and interpretation of the characters. I remember her from the 1995 production of Pride & Prejudice and enjoyed her performance then.

Superb Jane Austen

This is my favorite Jane Austen novel. I remember Susannah Harker as Jane in the 1995 BBC adaptation of P&P. She was perfectly cast as Jane and it turns out she is well suited for reading Austen aloud. Her voice is soothing, clear and strong. She is able to bring clarity and understanding to Austen’s lyrical and complex sentences. Her character voices are distinctive enough to be pleasurable and easy to follow without being jarring or exaggerated. I will listen to this again and again whenever I desire the comfort and delight of my favorite Austen novel.

Susannah Harker was amazing...

I listened to the audiobook version of Sense and Sensibility read by Susannah Harker and it was possibly the best audiobook I have ever heard! Yes better than Jim Dale reading Harry Potter (which I also really enjoyed)! If you get a chance to pick up this audiobook version, you should. She is very good at making each character unique and keeping you engaged the whole book. It is unabridged so 14 hours long but well worth it.

Excellent narration

I chose this version after listening to the audio samples of the many unabridged versions of Sense and Sensibility that Audible offers. I just finished listening to it and I am impressed. Susannah Harker does a fantastic job narrating and the audio quality is excellent as well. If you've only seen the Sense and Sensibility movies, then you need to read the book. The ending is much more fulfilling (as is the entire book) and Jane Austen's writing is full of wit, irony and genius.

You can find a review of the actual book in many places so I won't waste time. I highly recommend this audiobook version though.

Wonderful performance by Susannah Harker!

Lovely to hear Susannah Harker read this! Her portrayal of Jane Bennet in the A&E miniseries version of Pride and Prejudice drew me to this particular recording. I was not disappointed!

A comfort listen

I adore this book. Have done for years. I return to this reading of it again and again as a beautiful narration, easy to listen to, pleasurable and perfectly
highlighting the humour while capturing the painful moments. Perfect Austen audiobook!

Beautiful story, well performed

A beloved & highly entertaining novel. Ms. Harker's reading may not be as good as other narrators who've done Austen books. However, she has a beautiful voice which makes up for the occasionally imperfect diction.

A FANCY EXPERIENCE

I read this classic with my kids in the fall. I wanted them to have an experience that brought this story to life — with a British reader. This was a lovely rendition! My kids were laughing in all the right places. It was fun for me to introduce one of my all time favorite authors to them in such a sophisticated, authentic way!

The best audio version of this book!

This is the very best audio version of this beautiful book. If only Susannah Harker could read all of Jane Austin’s books!
