About this listen

Best-selling premier Christian author Michael Phillips continues his tale of the transforming friendship between two girls from very different backgrounds. This second book in the Shenandoah Sisters series follows the popular Angels Watching Over Me.

Mayme and Katie have become friends, which is unusual given that their friendship has spouted at the end of the Civil War and that Mayme is a former slave, while Katie is the daughter of a plantation owner. Both girls have been orphaned by the war, left alone on Katie's family plantation. The land is the one thing they still share, and they don't want to leave it. But if anyone finds out the two of them live there alone, they will be forced to move. Despite their differences, the two girls rely on one another and are determined to survive no matter what it takes.

Susan Spain's narration perfectly captures the emotions of these two adventurous young women.

A Greater Love

Remarkable narration, conveying pictures of a poor, black slave man, a teenage white girl, black teens and a child, with gifting and skill so capable as to make the listener unaware that one narrator is speaking all the parts. An unbelievable, yet believable, tale from the end of the civil war era. I was taken in and scarcely able to put it down.

Soooo GOOD!

The narrator was PERFECT! And the story wonderful! I had read it before, but this one is even better in audio form. Especially with this reader. If you love REAL stories filled with meaning and learning alongside the characters then this is for you!

Good Story Line...

I just discovered book 3 & 4 are not on audio so I will have to buy the book and read it myself if I want to know the outcome- BUMMER! I could at least listen to the audio when I drive... I'm sorry I purchased the books...

So absolutely awesome-not enough words to explanation!

Could not quit reading! Took me back as if I were living with them! What a picture of Christ’s love for me and Katy and Mame’s unselfish love for each other! Just can’t brag enough! 💖

Please don’t let the person who commented “poor narration” and “too predictable” discourage you-they obviously reviewed the wrong book! It was so beyond UNPREDICTABLE and had beyond SUPERB NARRATION!

My type of story and a excellent one at that.

This is an excellent, powerful, warming and unforgettable story that was written and read well. I say this confidently because I wanted more and that is a clear sign for me that it was good. I will not give much details because you must read it but I will say this is another book that I feel needs to be a class project. Enjoy! Forgot to mention .. the narrator sings!!

Great insight and depiction of the times & cultur

Wonderful perspective from various social positions. Particularly shows how different people were motivated by hatred, greed and arrogance, but other people on the same side of the issue were kind and generous and sometimes ignorant of harsh realities.
