Publisher's summary

“Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance.”—Pride and Prejudice, Chapter VI

After another disappointing Season fending off matchmaking mamas and grasping debutantes, Fitzwilliam Darcy has given up hope of finding a wife. His business partner, Edward Gardiner, suggests a sojourn into Hertfordshire to escape the machinations of Town—and meddlesome aunts who take every opportunity to help him on the marriage mart.

Although asserting his nieces would never be a match for Darcy, Gardiner suggests Jane and Elizabeth Bennet might make pleasant acquaintances while in the neighborhood. Privately, Darcy’s aunt, declares this sly approach to matchmaking as “inventive,” but wagers with Gardiner that nothing will come of it.

When Darcy meets Gardiner’s nieces, it comes as a terrific shock to find them poised, intelligent, and beautiful. Elizabeth Bennet intrigues Darcy like no other. With only his heart as a guide and keenly aware that his future is at stake, Darcy must decide if Elizabeth is a woman worthy or simply another husband-seeking miss.

Will Gardiner win the wager by manipulating a love match for his beloved niece? Or will Darcy’s doubtful aunt take the prize?

Long and hard to follow.

I don’t hate VV. If an author that has not and would not otherwise have an audiobook chooses to use VV, then fine. But for heaven’s sake, use a British voice please.
The voice used with this story makes the other VV books sound even better. There are so many times I had to replay a section because I could not figure out who was speaking.
Either way, this is not a story I would listen to again.

Manuscript, a true showing of the Bennet/Lucas Women & their Worth….

A welcome Variation….Finally allowing the Bennet Sisters to recognize their true selves & love, respect of each other through communication of the hurtful frustrations of their parent’s treatment to each, truly diverse. Also, recognizing Geo Wickham’s fake charms as the worse scoundrel & ridding him with/i 12hrs for anymore pages of the story. Their brilliance & value w/ conversation, debate & Col Fitz presenting the Cyber Puzzles as enemy transcription…5/6mos of expert inabilities to decode! Mr Gardner & Lady Mantof betting brought to story a genuinely Devine-Way legitimating the (3) Gentlemen choices in great joy of their betting lifelong happiness. Great read with little doubt a favorite.

Enjoyable until Chapter 20

At chapter 20 the text became riddled with tedious, sanctimonious diatribes, and more saccharine than is ever needed, ever. It's almost as if there were two different authors.

Sub par for Virtual Voice

The very first thing I noticed was that the VV narration is NOT in an English accent. Really? For a book set in early 19th century England? Then, as I got into the first dialogue exchange, I realized that I could not tell who was speaking. Not at all. Absolutely NO differentiation between speakers. I've listened to several VV books and I haven't had that problem before. Overall, this is the worst VV book I have listened to.

The story line was weak

The book was too wordy. It could have been a good story if the characters didn’t speak on and on in such saccharine sentimentality

Just okay

I just could not get engaged with the story line or the author's presentations of the characters. I could not finish the book but I did skip to the epilogue to determine the outcome.

Great story

I really enjoyed this story. One thing was how mr Wickham got himself into a situation. Many great moments. Great Jaff.
