About this listen

Fleeing a troubled past, Sarah Faust has found the perfect place to begin a new life. Tucked away on a charming side street and surrounded by lush grounds, the neglected 300-year-old townhouse in the port city of Charleston offers a refuge and a place to start over. But all is not as it seems at Five Rue Lane, and she soon finds that her new house harbors something that has been there for a very long time. Something that refuses to stay buried. In A Haunting, L. I. Albemont brings us parallel tales of old and modern horror, weaving colonial era events into a modern ghost story you won't soon forget.

I enjoyed the book. The story & the witch’s mythology was very interesting & spooky; the house had a great presence throughout which is obviously a must for any haunted house story. The instances of the character David’s point of view are entirely unwarranted. It’s one thing if the whole book is from both Sarah’s & his’ perspectives but the way it was done felt intrusive & random. I thought the instances might lead to some sort of ending that needed his perspective but it went nowhere. Not only that, but David’s thoughts were usually very shallow. Always about Sarah & how she looked. If you’re going to have him there at all, the writer should’ve fleshed out his character. Not a sign of a professional writer & I’m surprised the author’s editor let it stay in.
The prologue was completely unnecessary as well & came off as an afterthought to try & spook-up the ending. Very eye roll inducing. The author has a lot of talent & I hope she either learns from this or puts her foot down if someone made her do it.

The narrator, Teri Schnaubelt, did an excellent job! I believe I’ve heard her read before & ill be looking up her other work.

Could’ve been better

Facebook started out very interesting! as a thriller book follows the key component started to add up and the broken parts were stories that I could make sense that led to a great buildup but let down very quickly to the end of the book. They took a long time to get to the point of the mystery and then rushed the ending. It felt like it was over in 5 minutes. It was like a long, slow roller coaster that had two twists and turns at the end before it abruptly stops it was over.

Good Story but Fell Short in the End

I’m so glad to have stumbled across this book. It had all the elements of a good haunting, along with some magic and history.

One of the best haunted house books

This story was the perfect kind of horror. It was dark without being gruesome, other than a few places that made me want to cry. The narration was perfection. Accents were on point and made each character unique and believable. And the ending - it sent shivers up my spine. I wholeheartedly recommend this book!

SO creepy!

I absolutely loved this book. Everyday I could not wait to listen to it in my car on the way to and from work. I really got a sense of being in Charleston where this great story takes place.

Great story !

Strong story, good characters, well paced. The main character is easy to connect with and you really start to feel for her.

Well paced

I liked this book. Though, the narrator's voice took some getting used to. But once I adjusted, it was more enjoyable.

Slow burn

Book was good, narrator was excellent (as she always is) but there was no ending. It felt like the end of a chapter not the end of the book. I hope the epilogue was not a sneak peek of a #2 with new characters, Id like to know what happens with these characters first. Overall I did really enjoy the book, it held my interest all the way through...and beyond.

Not really an ending...

The story overall was enjoyable, but there were too many openings to subplots without end, feeling more like fluff than necessary action or detail, and the ending was anti climactic. I don't like stories that don't have an end - this one does have one, it's just wasn't a big bang of an ending.

Enjoyable but..

The book was good but it was a crappy ending. I don’t even know if the main character got with the guy she was eyeing? They don’t say... they left stuff out at the ending.

A haunting
