Free rein to love.…

Young Lady Jane Fitzmaurice had everything that Regency society approved of - flawless beauty, perfect breeding, and a respectable fortune.

But she also had a mind and heart of her own that set heads shaking and tongues wagging.

Whoever heard of a well-born Miss spending more time in the saddle than in the drawing room? How could she prefer the company of David Chance, her handsome horse-trainer, to that of Julian Wrexham, the most attractive nobleman in England?

I Liked It

It was good, but not GRIPPING. Just a sweet novel of childhood love. I wish it had a certain something, but it's still entertaining.

Another Wonderful Joan Wolf

I’ve been reading Joan Wolf for at least 25? years. I own every paper back versions of her Regency stories that I could get my hands on. Now I’m collecting the audible versions and I’m finding that’s a wonderful way to experience her stories in a better way.
This is a remarkable romance that left me feeling happy.

P.S. Where is the audio version of “The Guardian”? Who could resist a book that pens with “He’s dead, he’s really dead”?

Old fashioned Regency drama

I'm so happy that some of these vintage Recency novels have been reissued as audiobooks. There something so nostalgic about the 1980's view of the Recency time period. It's all taken with a grain of salt of course, times were different then. But the main drama of the book remains so interesting today. The heroine is really something in a good way! She knows her mind and isn't afraid to act accordingly. Her doting uncle is adorable and caters to her while remaining realistic as her guardian. The hero is a sweet boy and you can't help but pull for this couple through all of their obstacles. So much happens to this couple in a short number of pages/hours! The narrator does a great job of transporting you to the Regency time period. Overall this is fun, nostalgic, old fashioned Regency novel with an intriguing story and lots of twists and turns.

Splendid entertainment

I have read and reread all of Joan Wolf’s novels over the years and consider them among the best of the historical romance genre. I have waited impatiently for them to be made available through Audible but dreaded the possibility of poor narration quality. Well the narration by Karen Cass is outstanding. Her multiple voices are well done and consistent. Her male voices are excellent. I sincerely hope she remains the narrator for the rest of Wolf’s romance novels.

Enjoyed this lively but gentle book.

Jane is a fire cracker and David is a gentle soul. They become best friends through horses at ages 6 & 7 and grow up together. At 17 & 18, they want to marry, but Jane is a lady and David is her uncle’s stable manager. Will they have to elope? Excellent narration.

This story could have been told in half the time

A lot of this story was a waste of time.... it had about 3 hours of time wasting. couldn't wait to get to end...

Not my favorite Wolf

Narration was excellent, but storyline dragged for me. I liked The Arrangement and Fool's Masquerade better.
