About this listen

A perfect holiday gift.

Shari Lapena’s new thriller, An Unwanted Guest, is available now!

“Smart and suspenseful... you'll never see the ending coming.” (PureWow)

In this neighborhood, danger lies close to home. A domestic thriller packed full of secrets, and a twisty story that never stops - from the best-selling author of The Couple Next Door

He looks at her, concerned. “How do you feel?” She wants to say, Terrified. Instead, she says, with a faint smile, “Glad to be home.”

Karen and Tom Krupp are happy - they’ve got a lovely home in upstate New York, they’re practically newlyweds, and they have no kids to interrupt their comfortable life together. But one day, Tom returns home to find Karen has vanished - her car’s gone and it seems she left in a rush. She even left her purse - complete with phone and ID - behind. There's a knock on the door - the police are there to take Tom to the hospital where his wife has been admitted. She had a car accident, and lost control as she sped through the worst part of town. The accident has left Karen with a concussion and a few scrapes.

Still, she’s mostly okay - except that she can’t remember what she was doing or where she was when she crashed. The cops think her memory loss is highly convenient, and they suspect she was up to no good. Karen returns home with Tom, determined to heal and move on with her life. Then she realizes something’s been moved. Something’s not quite right. Someone’s been in her house. And the police won't stop asking questions.

Because in this house, everyone’s a stranger. Everyone has something they’d rather keep hidden. Something they might even kill to keep quiet.

Stranger things

This book started out very good, I was hopefully if a good mystery, especially after the last one I read

Alas not to be

To many twist and turns that made no sense. Too many repeated details, I guess the Author thought we couldn't get it the first time

And poor Tom, what a sap

Didn't like the ending

Hated the ending

Book was pretty good, definitely kept me interested. I just wished it ended a little better. The Couple Next Door had me on the edge of my seat, this book, not so much. But a good, easy read nonetheless!

Very good book. It keeps you interested from the beginning and has a couple good twists and secrets! Wish it was longer.

People Are Never Who You Think They Are.

This book is about a young woman who is in a severe car accident in a bad part of town. Once in the hospital, she remembers nothing. A man is found murdered and her car is seen near the crime scene. The woman tries to remember what happened on the night of the murder, and as she slowly regains her memory, her best friend tries to win back the affections of the arrested young woman's husband, as they had a previous affair before he married her. Tom, the husband, loves his wife Karen, and he can't believe that she would do something like commit a murder...but when Karen's best friend reveals to Tom that she knows things about the murder, he doesn't know what to believe.

This book is a story of jealousy, of love and of the impossible situations law enforcement and attorneys find themselves in when a crime is committed and more than one person could have committed the crime. Did Karen commit murder? Was it her best friend? Is she being framed? Is she hiding something?

I did not see the end of this one coming...loved this book.

it wasn't bad just 95% predictable

not bad but not that great where you'll remember it. it felt like this same story has been told too many times in the same way. I found it a chore to finish a good bit of the time. the narrators did do a good job distinguishing between male and female voices but her voices sounded the same for all female/male characters so it was confusing a good bit. and something that bugged me and also added further confusion... the authors name choices for the characters... I'm not saying everyone's last name should be Smith or brown or west BUT cmon krupkee? those other last names? it takes away from the story ...no offense to anyone with those last names but in my opinion uncommon complicated character names are distracting and annoying .it messes up the flow of a story for me personally. on a positive note the last 15 minutes did suprise me with major bombshells so maybe there will be a part 2 ? but not sure I'd listen.

I love Shari Lapena and her last minute twists

Another excellent murder mystery novel by Shari Lapena. I loved the drama. I loved the way she slowly unraveled the characters and distorted the truth until the last second. I highly recommend this book to any lover of suspense/mystery books.

Plot twists galore!

I absolutely loved this book. Many elements were predictable but many were not! As a huge fan of mystery/thriller, I highly recommend this to others who enjoy this genre.

Loved it! Well-done twists and turns!

I loved every minute of it.

The twists and truths revealed are juicy and eye opening.

I also loved all the little details throughout, down to noting Tom’s “leased Lexus” as well as the description of the characters’ facial expressions.

Another great book by Shari Lapena!

Good story... Not so unexpected outcome for :/

The story started out pretty good and had me interested, bit then it started to get a little far fetched and annoying. By the middle of the book I was starting to root for the antagonist,, because the main characters were so weak and gullible.
I think the narrator did a good good with the different characters.
