About this listen

Eddie: Cancel your dinky-little roomette on the train. I’m booking us two of the big bedroom suites.

Birdie: I’ll cancel it after you’ve booked the other sleeper rooms. And reimburse you.

Eddie: Don’t worry about it. Just cancel your tickets. I got this. Round trip. I’m on the Amtrak website right now.

Birdie: You don’t have to leave NYC when I do! You’ll hardly be able to spend any time with your Instagram girlfriend who you've never met!

Eddie: It’s fine. She’ll be fine with it. Cancel your tickets.

Birdie: You aren’t going to stop texting me until I’ve canceled them, are you?

Eddie: Damn right I’m not. Just do it. You can thank me later....

Eddie: Um. Did you cancel your tickets?

Birdie: Yes, Edward. I canceled them.

Eddie: Okay, because it turns out they only had one family bedroom from LA to Chicago. But the good news is I booked it for us. It’s the biggest room they had. The bad news is I booked it for us. And it’s the only sleeper room they have left now.

Eddie: In related news, there was also only one room left from Chicago to New York.

Eddie: Hands up if you’re excited! *man raising hand emoji*

Birdie: I am so mad at you right now....

Birdie: I’ve compiled a list of ground rules re: shared train bedroom. Check your email; please read carefully; and refer to it again on the ninth of February. Thank you.

Eddie: *nerd face emoji* Received. I have some notes.

This audiobook has dual narration, with portions that are duet-style.

Fun, flirty, fantastic rom-com!

Kayley Loring has once again delivered a rom-com that makes you laugh so hard you'll wake your husband in the middle of the night if you're reading or listening in bed (trust me, I speak from experience). A Very Friendly Valentine's Day is a friends-to-lovers railroad trip for the ages.

Eddie is rambunctious, energetic, well-intentioned but has a bit of trouble with the delivery. Birdie is one of his best friends, and when we is going to embark on a cross-country train trip, Eddie goes with her to keep her company and make sure she stays safe. What they discover on their trip is that their friendship is deeper than they think, and they have true romantic feelings that they would never let themselves explore previously.

Kayley Loring's rom-coms are always feel-good, funny, fresh and utterly hysterical. This is no exception. The audio, narrated primarily by Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright, is fantastic. Connor captures Eddie's exuberance, and Mackenzie captures Birdie's joyfulness perfectly. Featured narrator Dane Anderson is new, but he delivers some of the best lines as the conductor of their cross-country journey.

Cute story

I really enjoyed listening to Eddie & Birdie’s story in A Very Friendly Valentine’s Day which was wonderfully narrated by Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright.

Very friendly, indeed!

Eddie and Birdie are adorable. Having been friends for years, Birdie, his smart, sweet, nerdy buddy isn't phased by Eddie's Hollywood status. An actor in a popular CW show, Eddie is following his dream. When he decides to surprise his girlfriend, an IG model he hasn't met in person yet--just go with it--he and his bestie Birdie decide to take the train (Birdie's afraid of flying), and make a fun trip heading to New York.

In an attempt to splurge, Eddie tells Birdie to cancel her tight cabin on the train, and he'll get them a two-bedroom suite. Birdie cancels, and turns out the only suite available has one bed. So, they make the best of it, but their sudden close proximity is bringing out an attraction they both have been trying to fight. Until they can't. There's plenty of heat between these two, and I loved every minute of it.

This was such a fun friends to lovers story. Just goes to show you that the nerd can get the hot guy! Although still fairly new to her stories, Kayley Loring is becoming a favorite author of mine, and I'm trying to play catch up with some of her other books.

I cannot get enough of the Cannavale mom; she's so awesome! And Piper the cool, nerdy 13 year-old w/an affinity for nice butts. And all the Irish accents. Swoon!

Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright were wonderful. I also really enjoyed Dane Anderson's narration (big laughs).

Eddie & Birdie

A fun Friends to lovers trope. Love Eddie and Birdies story of friendship of 6 years that was love at first sight never spoken and Eddie's realization and determination to turn their friendship into something more on a train ride from LA to NY, and once he was committed to making her his, he ended a superficial entanglement that he really hadn't been all in for. Great narration.

Could not have been any better

I can't rave enough about this holiday series that Kayley Loring has written. This had me laughing so much, with a goofy grin on my face the entire time I listened. Both Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright have done a fantastic job narrating all three of these books. Cartwright has become a new favorite of mine. Her male sexy voice is HOOOOOT. And she so perfectly embodies the tween voice of the young Piper that it brings me joy. A must listen and this definitely goes on my top listens of 2022.

Witty and swoon worthy

Whenever I pick up a book by Kayley Loring I know that I am in for an entertaining read that will leave me with a smile on my face and that is exactly what happened with A Very Friendly Valentine. I was invested from the first to the at chapter of Eddie and Birdie’s story.

This is a friends to lovers story that ticked all the boxes for me. When Eddie and Birdie both plan a trip to New York for Valentine’s Day, their cross country train trip becomes complicated. Neither of them counted on the close quarters that they would have to share and the awkward moments that would occur.

I loved the witty banter between Eddie and Birdie, their text messages had me in stitches at times. I fell hard and fast for Eddie there was something about him that was totally swoon worthy. The chemistry between them is scorching and there was so much fun and laughter reading this book that my husband thought I was mad.

Connor Crais, Maxkenzie Cartwright and Dane Anderson did a fabulous job with their narration.

Swoon-worthy Rom-Com, and WOWZA those narrators!

OVERALL: My first experience with Kayley Loring was A Very Bossy Christmas, and I loved it. It was one of my favorite books from 2020. When I heard this book was being released, I was incredibly excited. Connor Crais has easily taken the top spot of “narrator crush” for me, and Loring writes a fantastically funny, sexy, and romantic book.

STORYLINE: After a very long span of angsty, overly dramatic books, I needed a palate cleanse, so I started immersing myself into sweet romances (some rom/coms, some not). This is one of those sweet, yet also hilarious, books. I think I laughed just as many times as I said “awwww” out loud. I love stories that continue with characters we’ve seen in previous books, and I was excited to see where this took Eddie Cannavale’s tale. The train as the vehicle (no pun intended) for their romantic journey was fantastic. I loved the use of it, and it worked really well.

CHARACTERS: Eddie is such a swoon-worthy character! He’s definitely top “book boyfriend” material! He is utterly charming, and so easy to fall in love with! I love his banter with his brothers/cousins. It was hilarious in the first book, and the fun continued in the second book. Birdie is such a relatable character for me. She’s a little nerdy, incredibly witty, loves the show Sherlock, and is involved in the arts. Both characters are so honest and communicative and loving. Their chemistry together was off the charts, and I love their repartee via text/phone and then in person! After finishing the book though, I want two books 1) centered around Billy “Boston” O’Sullivan and 2) featuring Gavin the conductor! I loved these two characters!!

NARRATION: The narration is top notch. I’ve mentioned it previously in this review, but Connor Crais has taken over the crown of my favorite male narrator. He is a MASTER of accents. I am perpetually amazed by the accents he delivers. He is consistent, and every one of his accents (including his natural voice) is incredibly sexy to listen to. His Irish accent is seriously one of the sexiest things I've ever heard (I'd ask for it too, Birdie!). I now seek out any books he narrates. I now seek out any books he narrates. His singing is also fantastic and should be included in every audiobook. Mackenzie Cartwright is fantastic. She is simply fantastic. She pulls you into stories and has this way of pulling you into the story fully. Now for Dane Anderson…. As Gavin the conductor of their “love train,” he was a real delight. His first line made me stop what I was doing, and I literally said, "Hooooooooly shit." What. A. Voice. Damn. I cannot wait to listen to more of him! He has perfect delivery, and he was one of my favorite characters in the entire book. I need a book about Gavin and Michelle next!

Loved it!!

I actually won this audiobook. It was a new author and Mackenzie Cartwright was a new narrator for me. Connor Craig’s I’ve listened to a couple times. Omgosh...... This trio was magic!! I loved the humour and banter between Birdie and Eddie. This friends to lovers book was delicious. I ate up every word and had a huge smile on my face pretty much the whole time. I will for sure be looking for more books by Kayley Loring. Also can I say the accents that Connor did was sooooo good! Oh my!!! I’m a new fan for both narrators!
