About this listen

AL:ICE: Captain Jacob Thomas USMC is a divorced combat veteran just trying to get his life back on track. Returning to the Marine Corps after a failed attempt at reconciliation with his estranged wife, Jake volunteers for an experiment that catapults him into a future where humanity has been stripped of 200 years of technological advancements and more than half its population. With the help of a faceless benefactor named Alice, he starts a journey to put Earth back on a path to recovery.

AL:ICE-9: With the help of the ALICE systems, Jake Thomas has successfully faced off with the hostile NeHaw three times. As he works to assemble a space fleet to address the expanding NeHaw aggression, terrestrial challenges at home continue to pile up, and the threat of a two-front war looms ahead.

AL:ICE: Resurrection: With unexplained transmissions originating in Europe, and an alien visitor with questionable motives, Jake is awash in new challenges on Earth and in space. Can the activity in Europe be a sign of troubles to come, or is it an indication of allies waiting to be discovered?

AL:ICE: Space War: Jake finds himself once again fighting a two-front war, one in space and one on the home front.

pretty good and enjoyable

it's entertaining without too much philosophic diatribe. Some of these series are like a perpetual pounding of yours and overly macho/religion of conservatism but not this. a little risky on the relationship front but more focused on keeping the story heading towards the inevitable human victory

Just get it you won't regret it.

I had the original first book and was ecstatic to find later they had this boxed set. I quickly snapped it up and found many hours enjoyment out of it. When I had listened to the first book I was sadly disappointed when there was not another.

I listen to a lot of SiFi

This box set popped up on my free list. I really liked the box set. The story carried through all the books well. The main characters are strong and I liked most. As the story progressed I did have a little hard time keeping them all straight.

Wake up in a post apocalyptic Earth

In this post apocalyptic world the haves and the have not are farther apart then ever. How do you go about to right the world and defend it from aliens? What values change and what truths remain? It may sound dim but it is also full of a lot of humor. I enjoy heros that overcome great odds but take the time to smell the roses.

Every man’s dream

Definitely entertaining book. I really liked it. There needs to be a hell of a lot more though. Make it so!

Story moves at a good pace and keeps your attention. Narrator is easy to listen to and has a good tone.

what I 🤔 about Al"lice

I like the way the book describes the world and how the state of the world came to be in such a state and I liked the characters in the story even though the some of the ladies that joined James were a bit much at times.

A teenagers fantasy wrapped in sci fi clothing...

Like the overall story, without all the earths remaining population is a number of beautiful, buxom farm girls with no male prospects and need to have babaies to save humanity.

Intrigue and romance but too much T&A

Loved the story itself, great challenges to overcome, interesting aliens and normal human struggles that are a constant in our world. Unfortunately I rolled my eyes a lot when he describes the relationships with women a bit too much of a man’s fantasy.

Even for space opera, just OK

In addition to the harem thing as others have said (which is also not believable and one-dimensional - if the writer insisted on this arc, it could have been done with a lot more emotion.), the story lacks some basic dealing with space issues. (SPOILER: how can a ship/station protect Earth from the edge of the solar system? Space stuff 101, remember what Bean figured out?).

I mean, it's worth a credit if you have nothing else to listen to (I am waiting for a bunch of equals to come out) and there ARE some cool concepts, and when doing dishes and laundry it's fine.

The narrator was fine - I can nitpick the way he did the women, but overall, it was fine.
