Publisher's summary

Does power truly corrupt? Or attract the already corrupted?

Three months since his debut, Aegis, aka Hugo Malalou, is becoming one of America’s most popular superheroes. But between protecting the city of San Miguel, surviving high school and maintaining some degree of a social life - he’s stretched very thin.

Worse, monstrous new threats and old enemies attack Aegis from all corners. Can he rise to the challenge? Or will the Shield of Justice be broken?

On the other side of the country, Greyson Hirsch remains committed to destroying this new generation of heroes. And his latest target, a young team of idealistic crusaders, is blind to the storm hurtling their way. All the while, Greyson’s obsession with a certain superhero from San Miguel deepens.

Aegis and Greyson’s paths are on a collision course that will alter the fate of the world. Choose your side....

This novel contains swear words, sea monsters, and nail-biting superhero action.

Main character is not well written in my opinion.

While the surrounding characters are amazing well developed, with evidence of growth; in my opinion the main character and villain are terrible. Though I want the hero to succeed for the sake of the story. He comes off as whiny brat, who is angry at people for the same things he does throughout 6 books. The same can be said for the main villain. Love everyone else and the world that has been created by the author.

power level plot armor

The main character power level is not consistent with his build. characters that are not strength base are able to take full powered punches from him. this should not be the case but it is. it makes the fights drag on longer than needed. most of his fights shold have been over in one punch. but it is a good book overall with good characters and plot. just remove the villains plot armor.

Loving this series...despite

Despite the sexual overtones and manwhoring of Hugo, I'm liking this book a lot. I appreciate how the sexual themes have backed off a bit more compared to the previous book. Hugo is still not even 17 years old. I can't thoroughly enjoy this book when the free-for-all sexuality of the teen characters is showcased and celebrated. Why are no adults trying to steer the kids into at least being monogamous?

The writing itself is awesome. The performance of the actors is great. I just struggle with the idea teems growing up too fast, and these kids totally are.

Book 6?

The title has nothing to do with my review but Kaleo Griffith did an ok job voicing the female character. Like majority of the narrations she did sound like a chola, which was annoying. I have no hate against her but she can do better job at the narrations.

Also when is book 6 coming out? The book came out the beginning of this year and the year is almost over with no book 6 :(

Pretty damn good!

I gave the first book in this series a knee jerk bad review. I don’t see a way to go back and change it. I was completely wrong. This series is really good! Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

Great installment

Pros: Hugo continues to be awesome in his role as Aegis and Grayson is still coming along nicely as the manipulative and dangerously talented/insane villain.

Cons: The ending was not good as what happened should not have taken place quite yet!
Also, they should have given the female narrator more time and have her do all the female roles!

Overall: Despite the ending being Ill-timed, it was still a great listen!

Each Book is better than the last

Maybe I'm just more invested in the story, but I feel like the quality of the writing and character development has improved with each book. I pre-ordered the next one already!

Awesome and Awful Simultaneously

This book really highlights the strengths and weaknesses of the series. The overall story and worldbuilding itself is fantastic. The actual writing is at times awful. The narration is all over the place, and as usual the female narrator is just cringeworthy.

The most aggravating example of poor writing that kept knocking me out of the flow: The author seems to think that -kinetic as a suffix means "master of." He refers to types of powers with that suffix when he clearly means -mancer.

The narration is all over the place, including a few chapters where the wrong narrator is reading the POV chapters. It's also like there is absolutely no coordination among the different narrators on what each character sounds like, how different words are pronounced, etc. It really seems like they all just phone in their different parts with no sort of direction or production.

But I'm this far in simply because as bad a writer as the author is, he has a great story in there and he knows how to build a world. His characters may be interchangeable cutouts, but there is a decent plot with a few good twists among all the cliches. If he had a competent editor or two, this series might be really something.

Good story

My only complaint is for the entire series is the different voice’s for same people when there being done by the 3 narratives. Otherwise I like the the series.
