About this listen

#1 New York Times bestselling author of the Mistborn series Brandon Sanderson continues the epic adventure he began in Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians.

So now you've heard all about me, Alcatraz Smedry, and how I was swept out of my life in your normal world and into the fight against the Librarians (jerks!). After being all heroic and stuff in that tale, I didn’t expect to charge headlong into enemy territory: the Library of Alexandria, where I—and my grandpa and my grouchy bodyguard Bastille and her even grouchier mother and some weirdly gifted cousins—run across the Curators (ghosts who will gladly help you check out a book as long as you don’t mind giving up your mortal soul) and some new nasty Librarians who hate our guts … and would be happy to rip them out for us.

But none of that comes close to the horror we will have to face if we succeed in finding what we’re searching for … MY DAD! (DUN DUN DUNNNNNN!)

The Scrivener’s Bones is the second book in this action-packed fantasy series for young listeners.

Alcatraz

This book has been very good. I love the way he stops in the middle of nowhere and tells you something random.

boys loved it

We listened to books 1 and 2 in this series on a long summer road trip. boys were laughing, fully engaged and attentive. we had to wait for good stopping points before they would take stretch break. they are 11 years old and love it when the author breaks the 3rd wall.

The fun continues!

The fun continues. The prize in this series is meeting more Smedrys. A Smedry might have a minor talent, but any talent is helpful, including waking up in the morning and having a bad hair day. There is the constant action of creative ways to use a talent and the might of Bastille, grandda’s body guard.

The books are written from the first person perspective of Alcatraz Smedry, written as a biography of how he became the hero of the Free Kingdom with the caveat that he is a liar. I wish there was a method of magic that was not depended on up the glasses.

This is a series purely for entertaining and for the purpose to not make any sense. If you are reading this (review for book 2), I will assume you read book 1. That being the case, this is just as crazy as the first book. If you have not read the first book, STOP and join the fun from the beginning.

Brilliant, entertaining, and good storytelling

Despite the author’s incessant attempts to convince us that he’s a terrible storyteller and a despicable person, his excellent storytelling still shines through. Sorry, Alcatraz. I know you really, really want us to have a low opinion of you. It hasn’t worked yet. (Although, on second thought, if the writer is failing horribly at his entire story’s primary purpose…does that…actually prove his point?)

Fantastic follow-up to the first book in this series, continuing the mission to set all of us Hushlanders straight on the true nature of reality. Alcatraz, you’re a hero. How’s that for a backhanded compliment??

Also, don’t skip to the end to try to find out what really happens to Bastille. You won’t be rewarded.

Our kind of humor

The story is compelling and fun. The humor makes the book amazing. Love the whole series.

A lot of fun, definitely worth your time

This book wasn't as much fun as the first one, but it was still well worth listening to. The characters are once again zany and fun, the situations crazy and over-the-top but still occasionally touching.

I'll definitely pick up the next book at some point.
