About this listen

As a deputy commissioner for the ICC, Alan Decker’s job is to make sure the settlements on LV178 follow all the rules, keeping the colonists safe. But the planet known as New Galveston holds secrets, lurking deep beneath the toxic sands dubbed the Sea of Sorrows. The Weyland-Yutani Corporation has secrets of its own, as Decker discovers when he is forced to join a team of mercenaries sent to investigate an ancient excavation.

Somewhere in that long-forgotten dig lies the thing the company wants most in the universe - a living Xenomorph. Decker doesn’t understand why they need him, until his own past comes back to haunt him. Centuries ago, his ancestor fought the Aliens, launching a bloody vendetta that was never satisfied. That was when the creatures swore revenge on the Destroyer....Ellen Ripley.

This was a very entertaining story. Absolutely inscrupulous characters with a driving story, it has mystery, wonder, horror, aliens, all the requisite components for a great time. I loved it.

This would make an outstanding movie trilogy.

If you enjoyed this book, you must hear the superb audio drama based o this book from Audible Studios. A full cast production with music and sound effects, it is superb and features added material. I personally think the added material should’ve been in the book. A must listen for Alien fans.

This book is a thrilling follow up to Tim Lebbon's "Alien Out of the Shadows." While set hundreds of years in the future, it ties into the first book in this trilogy. While Ripley is not featured in this story, one of her descendants is. Spoiler alert for those who haven't read the novel or don't want to know. The main protagonist, Alan Decker is an empath, who can feel the Alien hive's emotions. This is an Inspired Plot device that really delivers. This novel has all the hallmarks of the Alien films and would've made a great movie. Plenty of action, double crosses, and Wetland-Yutani Corporation at their usual cold, calculating best. It's very similar to Aliens, with mercenaries substituting for the marines, alien attacks, but this time the creatures can sense Ripley's descendant, Decker and the chase is on. Will Decker live? Will the company finally obtain an Alien specimen? That you will have to find out. An exciting, fast paced read. Great for fans of the Alien universe. I read this book using immersion reading, while listening to the audiobook. Narrator Jeff Harding did a good job, though the narration itself was a bit rote.

Best of the New Alien Trilogy

The story was good. A lot like other alien books but unique enough to enjoy…. If the narrator wasn’t terrible that is. The constant inflection at the end of every sentence drove me nuts. Felt like my high school chemistry teacher was narrating his favorite sci-fi novel in class.

I can’t get past the narrator.

So the first half was slow and second half picked up pace. Why 3/5. First book was better. Moving onto the third in series and hope it’s 5/5

Ok not great

Great short fiction, but the narrator truly was the worst I've listened to. He read each sentence as if they were all questions, and it was very distracting and frankly, annoying.

Great story, terrible narrator.

I love this story, but out of my nearly 900 Audible books, this narrator takes the prize as the worse narrator I have ever purchased. I kept the book because I do enjoy the extended story, but the abridged version, produced as an Audible Original Drama is far superior with amazing performances by the 4 narrators. Enjoy

Fantastic Story, Awful Narration. The Audible Drama Original, Swa Of Sorrows 1000% Better.

The full cast audiobook/audio drama is far better, provides a much better story. I picked this up, hoping for some additional details, I was disappointed with this version, especially the narration.

Average at best

The story hit all my boxes for business enterprise level clan destine research for military biomechanics and for sci fi horror. The good guys (aliens) always win. Sometimes, the humans make it out alive.

A thrilling tale of exploitation and survival
