Publisher's summary

The advertisement offered the ultimate Virtual Reality experience. Using a new technology known as Immersive Virtual Reality or IVR, you could truly experience the game as if you were in it. For someone who has been confined to a wheelchair all of his life, the promise was impossible to ignore, but only a few would be invited to take part in the Alpha test of the new game. Devon decided he would be one of those few.

To ensure he would be chosen he took the most unlikely combination of skills specializing primarily as a craftsman and secondarily as a healer. The best race for these skill trees is a Gnome but that further weakens his ability to fight and survive. Still, it is only the Alpha test and once in he can change it when they move to Closed Beta.

What could go wrong? Soon he finds out just how weak his choices seem to the developers who figure he will die a lot and always be a nobody. Name chosen, Gnobody sets out to take on Angromoria and it is everything he could hope for, until it becomes the only thing he may ever know.

Excellent

I have 150+ books in my library, most of which are LITRPG or a related genre. I can say with all certainty that this book is one of the better ones in the genre. Story is excellent, concept is just unique enough to set it apart, and the protagonist very likable. I typically don’t write reviews, so take that as a sign and get this book.

Can't get interested with the story

Pros: The writing or the book is good and scene and character descriptions are interesting. It's much better than many in this genre that are definitely missing a goof editor.
Cons: Events and decisions are too hectic, mc suddenly falls in love, suddenly becomes rich and popular, while at the same time it takes 2 hours to get into the game itself. I'm half through the book and I can't relate to the mc, his goals, the love story or the world. The narrator is doing an ok job, but in conversations between two people it's really hard to figure out who's talking.

Good except...

I enjoyed this book except when the main character was thinking or talking about his romantic interest. It REALLY killed my buzz listening/reading those parts.

An epic legacy of storytelling

I was excited to find a great novel with such visuals, depth of action and lack of melodramatic introspection. The intelligence behind the crafting system is astounding, the punch lines left me with tears on my cheeks, and the irl references were more of a trivia quiz that had me shaking out cobwebs from the days of my youth.

I fully recommend that any author in this genre read this book and learn how to tell a story. For the fans of LitRPG I am sure you will love it too.

The note regarding the author left me heartbroken and in shock. I offer my humble condolences to this veteran’s family and look forward to the next memorable gift from a great story teller.

A really great book

This was a great addition to the LitRPG genre. It had humor, interesting characters, and an excellent story line. Sadly, the author has passed away and while the "about the author" section at the end indicated that book 2 was almost done when he passed and should be released, I don't see it and a quick google search does not bring up any indication that the book was released. :( I would have bought it. If you don't like exploding mechanical sheep, you may want to skip this book, but who doesn't like exploding mechanical sheep? Am I right or am I right? I wish the best for Mr. Pendleton's family and would like them to know that at least this audio book reader thought his book was brilliant and will buy book 2 if/when it's ever released.
