About this listen

"This isn't an advice book, it's a Huh, I never thought of it that way book."

Do any of these statements feel true for you?

  • Finding a job can be relatively easy but finding a job I feel happy in is tough.
  • I don't seem to fit into any career box.
  • My family wants me to go (or go back) to college but I'm not sure if I should.
  • When I think about finding a new job, I feel overwhelmed or stuck.
  • My last boss was terrible. I want to avoid a situation like that again.

If you checked any of these boxes, then this book is for you. Complete with case studies and exercises, An Authentic Human's Guide to Finding Meaningful Work is here to help you find your own unique path forward. Since no one else has the same upbringing, values, experience, talents, hopes, and dreams, this guide won't tell you what you "should" do, but instead encourage you to look at your options deeply and differently.

We can all find work that feeds not just our bodies but our souls-and that includes you. This book will help open your mind to new strategies and possibilities.

Insightful perspective on career paths

This is a great read for those unsure about their careers and those who want to start treating a job as something more than just a source of money. I especially love it when the author goes out of their way to record the audiobook themselves as the Debbie Machine does here. It gives a personal touch :)

Fantastic Career Tool

An Authentic Human’s Guide to Meaningful Work is perfect for anyone in their early career, a transitional place in their work journey, or looking to change to a path more meaningful to them.

Mourey provides helpful information and practical strategies for success in various aspects of one’s work journey, traditional or otherwise. I found the exercises at the end of each chapter extremely helpful for fostering structured self reflection on myself and my career goals.

Mourey’s passions and experience, which she discusses throughout the book, make her particularly qualified to discuss the variety of topics in the book. It is also clear that she took time to connect with GenZ and Millennials in order to understand their experiences and values, and the case studies offer further insight into work paths and possibilities of the younger generations.

This is a great book to keep on-hand. Since reading it, I have revisited certain chapters whenever they become especially pertinent to my life, like when starting my first job out of college.

Ultimately, Mourey’s experience and compassionate yet tell-it-like-it-is nature make the book both a valuable tool and pleasant read.
