About this listen

The Bloodmoon Express - M.R. Wallace. Following a failed case in London three years before, Ian DeWitt finds himself on Le Train Bleu. The famous passenger train will ferry him to the warm shores of the Mediterranean for a much-needed rest. Ian soon finds that the horrors of the past have followed him, and the resplendent luxury train becomes the hunting ground for a monster all too familiar to the beleaguered Scotland Yard detective. Running out of time and woefully unequipped to combat such a beast, DeWitt must discover the identity of the creature and attempt to stop it before they are torn to shreds.

Savages for Revenge - Alex Marroquin. Failing as an artist, Derrick de Sousa travels to Argentina to recover his artistic inspiration after his college sweetheart invites him to reunite with her at Buenos Aires. Instead, he finds himself forced into a path of murder and cannibalism by a madman convinced that all humans must die in order to preserve the natural world for himself.

This mysterious killer, armed to the teeth for his "war against humanity", forces Derrick to follow in his bloody footsteps across Argentina. But with each life he takes, Derrick finds it harder to drop the weapon in his hand.

Garvey’s Eats - Kenneth Seward. Deep in the backwoods of Texas sits a diner named Garvy’s Eats, famous for its burger, the Garvy Special. Whitney and Tegan, best friends since junior high, are on a road trip to Mexico before college starts in the fall. After a thunderstorm forces the friends to take a detour, they end up at the diner where Roy Garvy wants the two girls for meat on the Garvy Special. Now with a monstrous, sick, and twisted man known only as the Hellbilly hunting them down, the two girls must fight for their lives or risk ending up being served on a bun with a side of fries.

Dat Voice Though

Reviewing, or even rating, an anthology is kind of insanely difficult! I've become quite a fan of the narrator, Jerry Bradshaw, and came across this compilation while searching for books he's recorded. His performance once again exceeded my expectations. I suspect this guy could read the phone book and make it delightful, and yes, I know how old I sound referring to phone books.
The anthology itself was presented as "unholy," which might lead a reader to think they're in for some demon stories, some interesting tales about good versus evil. You're not. This is a collection of gore porn. And that's not meant to insult or belittle the subgenre - gore and violence is fun and even cathartic sometimes. But it's not great when you aren't expecting it, so be prepared for blood, guts, viscera, eyeballs, eating human meat with cheese, and just...gore.
The stories vary in how compelling they are. Some have sympathetic characters, others have unrealistic disaster protagonists. The writers' artistry differs wildly, from very engaging to nearly incomprehensible in a way that I'm pretty sure wasn't an artistic choice. All told, I probably won't be revisiting this collection, but I'm happy to keep seeking out more work by Bradshaw!
