Publisher's summary
Cassandra Vail has but one objective at the Kellens’ ball: she must secure a proposal from her eminently suitable suitor. Instead, she finds her best-laid plans thwarted by another man—the handsome and thoroughly vexing Mr. Harwood. Thanks to his meddling, Cassandra is faced with an unthinkable consequence: her parents take matters into their own hands and betroth her to a complete stranger.
Tom Harwood meant only to deter a debutante from pursuing his friend. He wasn’t supposed to be entranced by her. He certainly wasn’t supposed to flirt with her. And he especially wasn’t supposed to engage the wrong woman entirely. To make matters worse, he’s offended Cassandra and before he has the opportunity to make amends, he finds himself the latest unwitting victim of the meddlesome Matchmaking Mamas. His parents have signed a contract for his hand in marriage, and it seems his mysterious betrothed is as opposed to the union as he is.
When the reluctant couple finally meets, they are shocked to realize they are not strangers after all. Can one miserable beginning be overcome, or has their future ended before it even begins?

Story
Sowerby, England, 1802. Miss Genevieve Wilde—a magistrate’s daughter and independent heiress—is determined to meet life’s challenges all on her own, just as her late-father had taught her. So when her father’s pocket watch is stolen, she will do anything to get it back, especially when the local authorities prove incompetent. Upon reading an advertisement in the paper, she takes a chance and contacts a thief-taker to find the watch. It’s a choice Ginny regrets when former Bow Street officer Jack Travers arrives on her doorstep.

Marianne Edgewood is perfectly capable of running Brindale Castle, if only the task would be left to her. A centuries-old house of stone is solid, unchanging, whereas people are not to be relied upon. It matters little that a stranger inherited the castle. She must simply find a way to stay.

truly enjoyable
This author is new to me and I am so glad I found her. I love the matchmaking mamas and hope she will writeany more. The stories are fun and entertaining. They progressed Quickly and the narrator was perfect. I love books that leave me smiling and light at the end even though there is usually some type of conflict to get through. This did not disappoint. I loved it.

Sweet Story, Even better than the first!
Noah Wall's narration is outstanding as usual.
Because I read the 1st in the series I was unsure I would like a second.
However it is different than the first.
Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Wobderful story. Exceptional Narrator.
As in other Annika Walker Regency Romances, delightful characters, riveting and complex plots, lead to a surprise end. One of my favorite authors. Noah Wall a Top 5 narrator on my list. Love. Love. Love.

One of the best books
I have loved all of Anneka Walker‘s books, and this one is no different! She has a way of weaving a story that pulls you in and connects you to the characters. I can’t wait for her next book!

Underwhelming - it’s ok but doesn’t stand out
There are a ton of these romance books out there. There is nothing wrong with this one, but it doesn’t stand out in any way. I didn’t get drawn in. I was bored of it 3/4 of the way through but finished because it was a pick by my book club.
The main characters don’t have anything particularly unique about them. There is the typical evil rival woman, and a straggly workhouse child to be saved. Nothing wrong with the book, just nothing memorable.
