About this listen

An activist attorney is killed in a cute little L.A. trolley called Angels Flight, far from Harry Bosch's Hollywood turf. But the case is so explosive - and the dead man's enemies inside the L.A.P.D. are so numerous - that it falls to Harry to solve it. Now the streets are superheating. Harry's year-old Vegas marriage is unraveling. And the hunt for a killer is leading Harry to another high-profile L.A. murder case, one where every cop had a motive. The question is, did any have the guts?

What made the experience of listening to Angels Flight the most enjoyable?

The story-lines and now quintessential Bosch character keeps me coming back.

What did you like best about this story?

The growth and evolution of Bosch's relationship with his superiors and colleagues is always realistic and appealingly unpredictable. This book proved a continuation of the pop psych appeal of Bosch's development.

What didn’t you like about Peter Giles’s performance?

Giles reads the WHOLE BOOK like it's a Bud Light commercial (picture "Real Men of Genius"). Emphasis on every other word. At least.
The dynamics come out somewhat flat.
I guess I just got accustomed to the first five books featuring Dick Hill's excellent dynamic range and consistent but distinct characterizations. Oh well.
And now...back to..."Today we salute you, Mr. Harry Bosch Hollywood Detective Man..."

Another great Bosch hit...read like a slogan......

The first few books were good and the narrator did a good job. I’ve listened to a lot of audio books but it took me a long time to get used to this narrator’s diction.

The story itself is great and probably the best so far in the series. If you can get past the narration it’s a great story.

Great story, bad narration

This is another thrilling Bosch story, but it’s let down by the narration. Peter Giles reads like he’s narrating the trailer for an action movie, poorly. He makes Bosch’s voice drip with an unbelievable, forced aggression that detracts from the story. He also pauses at every comma in a way that people don’t usually do when in natural dialogue which I caused me speed up the playback to 1.25x. That is not a good thing.

Great story, mediocre reading

Read at your own peril. The new narrator sounds like lego batman when he does Bosch's voice. Once you hear it you can't unhear it. I liked Dick Hill's performances much better.

Old narrator was much better

One of the best HB stories I have read. Really disappointed in the silly ending. Rest of book was great.

Great story minus the ending.

Through the years I have enjoyed Bosch's character very much! I would suggest Liam Neeson for his cinematic player.

More please!?

Another good 'un !!

How could the performance have been better?

I think this narrator must be the same guy who narrates the overly dramatic animal shows that I can't stand watching. Every sentence is read with great drama, and all interactions between characters sound like pivotal moments (when most of them are not). I personally found this super annoying and the reading really took away from the story for me. Listen to the clip before buying!

Narrator SOOO dramatic! Annoying

I liked the narrator for the previous books better. This guy was still okay. Still a good story

Liked the previous narrator better.

Where does Angels Flight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

A good Harry Bosch book 4th I have read, all are good, not crazy about the ending though

What was one of the most memorable moments of Angels Flight?

the hidden hyperlink. sad to think there are really people doing this stuff

Which character – as performed by Peter Giles – was your favorite?

Bosch himself

Any additional comments?

Just wanted to chime in I saw some not so great reviews of the reading. Well I personally found the reader to be great, yes different from the reader of pervious Bosch stores, but nonetheless great.

Here to defend the narration

I've grown used to the different voices used for each character in this series. Not having that brought it down for me.

Great story terrible reader
