About this listen

A belligerent springtide!

Being the most powerful wizard in the world can be a challenge....

After defending his fledgling realm against the undead lord Gaja Katar all winter long, Count Minalan of the Magelaw faces a new threat in the spring: the Nemovort Shakathet, favored of Korbal, leading the mighty hordes out of the Penumbra. This time, Minalan faces a real strategist; one who drives his armies with purpose and efficiency. The road to war leads through Megelin Castle and the vulnerable lands to the south of Vanado. Old enemies will become allies, and old friends will become valuable assets.

War, however, is not what is preoccupying Minalan; the knowledge of the end of the world is. As he broods on existential issues and debates with various goddesses and Alka Alon about Calidore’s fate, he must overcome his own fears and anxieties and impose order on the situation before everything goes into the chamber pot.

The solution? Hire an Arcanist, a specialist in the obscure and trivial, to organize and investigate the many matters Minalan has to manage and bring them to order.

great but a few of the chapters are out of place

like the Rest of the series the story was great but around the hidden Castle chapter they bring in the Cat of night with out any contact then go in to finding the hidden cave at the iron hill castle. the book also talk about the cows that haven't been gifted to him yet. then the next chapter bring up the cow goddess so some need to edit the book a bit better.

A hurdle

I am too deep into this series and love every book (even the next one). You'd be forgiven to stop the series here and not read this, as I'd rate this the most uninteresting of all the books. It's not bad, and it is necessary to progress into the next, but it is one I "merely finished". Me, being too big of a fan, enjoyed it. If you stop here, I understand, but you will lose out on the next one, which I think is the best in the whole series (other than the first of course).

awesome as usual

sometimes some of the explanation and backstory can get a little to deep for my liking but overall I love this series and this was just another great addition to it!

A fine addition to a stellar series!

I have yet to find another series that blends intelligent writing, high fantasy, science fiction, wit, knowledge of human belief, and more...Arcanist is a great chapter in the Spellmonger saga and I look forward to future installments.

Another great addition

This is just what I needed to cope with covid. Another great escape into the world of the spellmonger. A great book, and expertly narrated.

Phenomenal Addition to the Spellmonger Epic

The story absolutely satisfied me with both the prolific action throughout and the abundant information giving new depth to ongoing plots, plans, and scenes of the multitude of factions and interests on Calador. Truly, a fantastic addition to the Spellmonger saga.
