About this listen

Yara Phillips is a wandering muse. She dates men who need her, but always moves on to something new, never staying in one place for very long.

David Lisey is in need of a muse. A talented musician lacking lyrical inspiration. When he first sees her, he knows he's found what he's been seeking.

Yara believes she can give David exactly what he needs to reach his full potential: a broken heart.

David’s religion is love. Yara’s religion is heartache. Neither is willing to surrender, but religion always requires sacrifice.

I will be searching for my books by Tarryn Fisher. It was beautifully written with broken characters discovering how to live perfectly despite their imperfections. I was immediately drawn in and couldn’t turn it off. Brava, Tarryn!!

Atheists Who Kneel and Pray was a great read by Tarryn Fisher. I absolutely loved reading Yara and David's story although I wanted to yell at them both so many times. Yara is a muse who dates men that need her, then she leaves them. David is a talented musician who is looking for a muse. David is following love while Yara follows heartache. I absolutely loved Yara and David, separately and together. I can't wait to read more by Tarryn Fisher.

I really enjoyed the story. I thought the character development was good and the angst made it hard to stop listening. However, my main complaint is that the female narrators voice did not fit the character at all. I found her voice to be on the mature side for a mid to late 20’s character and she lacked the depth of emotion that makes a narration memorable. I also would have enjoyed more steam and for the story to have continued on a bit past where it ended.

Good story, but a few elements lacking

I must say Tarryn Fisher has created a story that is a wonderfully mastered mess, but that’s what I love about her writing. No typical girl meets boy, boy falls for girl HEA. She has hea’s but makes it interesting getting there.
Yara Phillips a nomad has no true home, she was abandoned by her mother never knew her father, bar tends to pay her bills, and flees when things in her confused mind get out of control, till she meets David Linsey who is a musician that has lost his way. David knows from the beginning Yara belongs with him, he just needs to convince her, but I have given you all I’m going to, that where the mastered mess comes in and you need to listen to Finty Williams and Alexander Cendese tell the story.

What a story

After being totally wrecked by my first Tarryn Fisher book, Mud Vein, I had been unsure what to pick up next of hers. That is until I saw her give a next book to read based on the mood you’re in list, and I knew this was what I needed next. Not really knowing what to expect, I went in with a very open mind and only have read the blurb, I was captivated almost instantly. I read the book while also doing the Audible and I must say I fell so deep so quick into this story I couldn’t put it down. I found myself reading when I couldn’t listen and listening when I couldn’t read, just so I could find out how it all ends! It was unlike anything else I’ve read and that was a very unexpected surprise!

Tarryn formed such an amazing character arch for Yara and her journey with David Lisey, it sets this book apart as a truly unique tale. Yara is a “wandering muse” who doesn’t stay anywhere long, moves from city to city, country to country, in such a manor you can really tell she’s searching for something. She finds what she least expected upon that journey. David is an aspiring musician looking for his next muse to ignite his creativity. When the two collide, they consume one another so fast you really aren’t sure who will survive it on the other side. Their passion is instant, their chemistry is irrefutable, and their entire story is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.

“There is no moving on when you’re truly in love. You try and you keep trying, but that love is a stain on your life. It’s just not that easy.”

*Captivated by my 2nd ever Tarryn Fisher novel!
