About this listen

All is fair in love and auto maintenance.

Beau Winston is the nicest, most accommodating guy in the world. Usually.

Handsome as the devil and twice as charismatic, Beau lives a charmed life as everyone's favorite Winston Brother. But since his twin decided to leave town, and his other brother hired a stunning human-porcupine hybrid as a replacement mechanic for their auto shop, Beau Winston's charmed life has gone to hell in a handbasket.

Shelly Sullivan is not nice and is never accommodating. Ever. She mumbles to herself, but won't respond when asked a question. She glares at everyone, especially babies. She won't shake hands with or touch another person, but has no problems cuddling with a dog. And her damn parrot speaks only in curse words. Beau wants her gone. He wants her out of his auto shop, out of Tennessee, and out of his life. The only problem is, learning why this porcupine wears her coat of spikes opens a Pandora's Box of complexity - exquisite, tempting, heartbreaking complexity - and Beau Winston soon discovers being nice and accommodating might mean losing what matters most.

Beard in Mind can be listened to as a stand-alone.

I love that Penny (author) broke the mold of the traditional romantic lead characters with 'un-perfect' Shelly. While continuing to tell the stories of the Winston Brothers, Shelly' s character brings light to mental disease and the complexity of OCD. I literally laughed and cried at the end of this book.

wonderful story with a nontraditional heroine

This book was an amazing read! The care with which Penny Reid shared and enlightened me about the depth of OCD through Shelley was so compassionate. The growth experienced by Shelley and Beau was beautiful. Based on some of the reviews, I almost passed this story in the series up...I am so glad that I didn’t miss this amazing story!

Awesome!

I loved how the story about a condition that can be so traumatic for some people. I know the condition exist and that some people have it slightly to more extreme but listening to this book show you what people can be going through and I think it does it really well.

Thank you for adressing the issue of racism and shedding light of the many conversations that all black families must have with their children if we want them to be safe while interacting with law enforcement and others so that they come home alive.

Appreciation for binging attention to racism!

When I listened to the first book of this series, I was hooked. The actors playing the characters provided the right amount of inflection and Southern accent to endear the characters to me. this family has a lot of charm, compassion, and sass, not to mention intelligence that you can only thank the woman who raised them.

Love this series
