About this listen
Ten years ago Lukio fled Kiryat-Yearim, where he'd been adopted by the Levite family who guarded the Ark of the Covenant. Feeling betrayed by everyone, he returned to his birthplace in Philistia to become a famous fighter. Now the champion of Ashdod, Lukio has achieved every goal with the help of his ruthless cousin. But just as he is set to claim the biggest prize of all, the daughter of the king, his past collides with his present in the form of Shoshana.
After a heartbreaking end to her secret friendship with Lukio, Shoshana thought to never see the boy with the dual-colored eyes and the troubled soul again. But when she is captured in a Philistine raid and enslaved in Ashdod, she is surprised to find that the brutal fighter known as Demon-Eyes is Lukio himself.
With explosive secrets and unbreakable vows standing between them, finding a way to freedom for both may cost them everything.

People often think of Job sitting on the ash heap, his life in shambles. But how did he get there? What was Job's life like before tragedy struck? What did he think as his world came crashing down around him? And what was life like after God restored his wealth, health, and family? Through painstaking research and a writer's creative mind, Mesu Andrews weaves an emotional and stirring account of this well-known story told through the eyes of the women who loved him.

My new favorite author
I got my first Connilyn Cossette book on an audible sale. I didn’t realize it was the second book in the cities of refuge series. I was hooked - finished that series and then the out of Egypt series. Then I started this one. I am sad there were only two books and I finished them too quickly 😭
I am looking forward to more books from her. This one was a favorite. Oh, Lukio….

Love this series
I love these stories and love that they give me a window into the history of the Bible. They are so good. My only complaint is the female narrator is so good, and the male narrator is just ok. Compared to her it’s just not very good. But it’s still amazing!

Wonderful and unforgettable
This was indeed an incredible book. The historical and biblical setting was amazingly well done and based on many true situations (and even characters) found in Scripture. The individual characters literally came to life on the page, both good and bad. The history and depth of the relationship between Shoshana and Lukio was beautiful and yet at times heart rending. It was difficult to know how many of the situations and relationships within the story would end… Some heartbreaking and others beautiful. I loved to see the obvious hand of God at numerous times throughout the story, especially as Lukio comes to believe. I highly highly recommend this book!

Engaging story!!
All my Goodreads friends gave this 5⭐️ and I totally see why! I loved the storyline and liked the narration. These narrators do a lot of biblical fiction so sometimes it feels like the same story, but this unique plot was so different that I was definitely immersed and engaged!!

The Reunions Are Breathtaking
Jonathan Todd Ross should definitely be a repeat narrator. Zevi's story would be a great addition to this series and I can almost "hear" him reading it.
Lukio/Natan makes it all the way back to Ashdod to become it's champion entertainment fighter. Just as he hits the absolute peak of his goals in Philistia, Shoshana, the love of his youth, is revealed to be there, a slave in the house of the embittered King Nicaro and to his betrothed, Nicaro's daughter Mariada. If you've never understood IsraEl's path from the death of Samson to becoming keepers of the Ark of the Covenant, this book makes that much more clear. The reunions are breathtaking!! Can't wait for the next one!!

The term K-9 lol
Great story. I think the author deliberately used the term "k-9" to give us a chuckle. For this terms earliest known use was in the 20th century. Therefore, I choose to laugh right asking with the author. lol
