Publisher's summary

National service kills 50 percent of Edin's 18-year-olds. For most, survival is the goal. For Spike and Matilda, it's just the beginning....

In the walled city of Edin, Spike's carefree childhood has always had an end date. His protection from the wasteland of death on the outside is about to change on his 18th birthday. But while only half of the cadets survive their mandatory time on national service, Spike's goal goes far beyond making it out alive. He's betting everything on being chosen as the top candidate, rising to the role of Protector, and securing a spot beside his beautiful best friend.…

The only thing Matilda wants more than Spike's success is to keep her family safe. But as she shows support for the boy she loves, she wishes national service didn't force her to leave her vulnerable brother behind. Matilda understands that Edin's rules will only let her and Spike be together if he becomes the next Protector, but when a devious rival decimates his odds, she doubts both their gamble and her feelings….

To become the last cadet standing, Spike must learn to kill the diseased, control his emotions, and become the best in a sea of worthier candidates. Will Matilda and Spike achieve the impossible beyond the city walls, or will they join the growing pile of corpses on the outside?

Great books so far

Saw an ad of FBI for this and I’m always down for a zombie story. Really liked this one so far. Hope it stays this great.

males of our species are no good

first box set is ok but a pattern of all males in the store are week in mind , body ,and spirit or pathetic narcissistic and evil, weman are the talented tuff ones or victims.
l continued to the end of the second box set, in hope for a cliff hanger change in the mane male caracter but it only got worse .

pretty slow and surprisingly uneventful

surprisingly enough I didn't get bored enough to bail on the first three books but they're really isn't much going on besides the same fighting the diseased over and over. narration was okay but he had too many voices to deal with.

Amazing story

I started loving to listen to this series as I worked. Granted it takes a second to get started but once it does it gets really good. Plus I love how the characters developed and you from a bond with them.

enjoyable

There is nothing new in this story that hasn't been written or told before. Yet, I enjoyed the series and look forward books 4-6.

Not exactly a zombie book.

I liked these books, I am not crazy about zombie books so this one hit just right. It has a hero, a love story, a villan and the infected. Each book has a story line a easy listen to these 3 books.
Eric Bryan Moore gave an excellent performance narrating these book. The author Michael Robertson's writing and dialogue in these books was also very good. Well worth the credit.

Just okay

These first 3 books were okay. Kind of a slow start, the entire first book is pretty much just exposition. The second and especially third book were better. The story line was JUST interesting enough to keep me from stopping but it can drag on and get very repetitive.

Uneventful and boring

I want my credit back. Heard “national service” way too many times and called it quits. Nothing really happens in the first book other than spike being a fan girl over a protector and falling in love with his friend. Finding it unbelievable that this city would send kids to build a wall and fight zombies for a year then go about working whatever job their district is assigned. Gave up 2 chapters into book 2 because it was so boring
