About this listen

In a world filled with monsters and supernatural entities, the idea of schools and extracurricular activities being used to identify candidates worthy of advancing was a given.

Schools and extracurricular activities have been used as a way to provide early advantages for children who strive to work harder and prove themselves from an early age.

In this world, where academic success could literally mean the difference between life and death, many students develop emotional baggage. Fortunately for Alexa, she does not suffer from the problems that plague most of her peers.

Gifted with an intelligent mind to start, she realized early on that applying herself to both her academic and sports competitions was the number one way to succeed in this world. How can she do it? Shuffle studying, school work, and sports practice, all while being a teenager? The answer is simple: she has no emotions.

The only time she truly feels anything is when she increases her attributes. With that as her sole guiding purpose in life, she is determined to advance and grow her attributes as much as possible. What can a girl do in a supernatural world where the only thing holding her back is how hard she is willing to work?

Anything she wants.

How can a girl with no emotions learn to function as an ordinary student, at least for appearance's sake? Simple, biting sarcasm and deadpan responses.

This is the story of Alexa Thyme, a girl unwilling to bend to a world she can't relate to.

I really enjoyed this book. The narrator was fantastic and the story kept my interest throughout. Can't wait to see where this series takes me. I hope book two comes out quickly.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The very start was a little clunky, but a few chapters in and I was hooked. Had a satisfying arc, world building, and ending, all of which have me excited for the next one.

I’m pretty sure the series is like some others in the genre, completed and just waiting final editing and audio, so nice to know more is coming and I won’t be left hanging.

Great entry into the genre, looking forward to #2

It was a fun read with some minor mistakes, like she had a phone to take selfies for her date service then later she mentally claims to herself that she doesn't have a phone because she doesn't like them. Small things like that.

Also it starts out with a litrpg adventurer vibe paranormal dungeon diver with classes and stat skill ect. Then later seems to lean more towards super hero with super villains and suits. a bit odd like it was finding it's way.

My only real complaint is....romance. how does a book with a character who doesnt feel emotions STILL shoe horn in a big romance story. A good 4th of this book is about dating and romantic feeling. A big part of why I chose to read this was I thought without emotions at least the author wouldnt lean on the romance crutch to fill the story and propel motivations. Sadly not the case. Author still needed to pad the story with annoying fawning romance rather then plot.

Sae because the story itself was good and the world and the MC. So it was entertaining despite its. For those who like romance...bonus? For those who just want a good story not a day time soap of who likes who...sorry but its here.

Overall entertaining

Took a chance on this book due to Mare Narrating the story. Author blew me away! For a first book release and the presentation and plot just wow! I am really sad the booked ended, It grabbed me and then it was over, I hope the next comes out soon! Mare narration was amazing on usual. Cover is pretty cool too! if I could give me more stars I would!

Exactly my cup of tea. Even made me tear up a couple of times. I'm eagerly awaiting more.

Phenomenal

Rather than muddle the story with trashy drama, the author filled it with an intriguing story of suffering and a very meaningful and effective motivation for the main character to become the overpowered character we can admire. The story was so compelling and interesting that I stayed up for hours past my bedtime because I didn't feel like I could stop listening. There is no doubt this is one of my favorites. No promises on the rest of the series yet, but I'm hopeful because good writing usually doesn't suddenly yield to poor riding without a few precursor signs.

I feel no need to criticize or even give editorial suggestions to a book this good! Also, I think the summer is good enough that there's no need to say more and risk revealing too many details.

Pure awesomeness!

The story was always enjoyable, but I love the reader. If you are a little iffy about lit-rpg's, don't worry because the writing doesn't throw stats and levels at you. They are mentioned occasionally, but it isn't a reoccurring or significant part of the narrative. To make a final note, the main character is OP in this first book, but you still don't get the sense of her railroading through life's problems because it's mostly told as a kind of slice-of-life, not a power-ramp.

This was such a good book overall. I was a little worried by the author using a stupid net alias, which usually means this would not be a true book but a net serial that would inevitably ramble on and on forever with no clear plot. While I don't know the origins, this did actually fit well into book form and had a well crafted plot with excellent characters. I really loved Alexa. The author did a perfect job of keeping her character consistent and likeable despite her disability. Really, this book was easily a solid five stars right up until the end. The author basically did a rug pull in the last chapter and ended the book on a sour note, spoiling all the good feelings I had for it in an instant. The epilogue sort of eases the bad feelings a bit, but also introduces another trope of this genre that I'm not too keen on, but I have enough faith in the author that I will definitely read the next book in the series and hope for the best. However, please don't let this negative sentiment steer you away from this book. The ending is just on a bad note but not a bad ending entirely and the vast majority of the book is well above average. I'm glad I read it and count it as one of the better books I have read in some time.

Well Done

This was an excellent book. I will absolutely be reading book 2 (and any other book I find by this author). My only complaint is that ending a book on not only a cliffhanger, but one where character relationships are up in the air is borderline cruel.
