Karl is worse than a newb. He doesn’t even like role playing games. Still, they did give him a choice: totally immerse or die.
Now Karl is on his very first adventure into the gaming world of Bridge Quest. It’s a world so real that it’s hard to tell the difference between NPCs and the players; where tastes, smells, sounds and experiences are so vivid you forget you’re in an artificial world. Except for those pesky popups and stats charts, Karl discovers he’s having more fun than in real life. He even gets to kill orcs, gnolls, trolls, and goblins, and then hang out with gorgeous women.
And the best part is that he’ll never die…at least that’s what they told him.
Unfortunately, there is one significant drawback – there’s no coffee.

second, he is supposedly ex military. but honestly, it didn't feel like he was. we keep getting references to his old military life, but from his behaviour i would dout he ever was any part of the military, let alone some elite soldier. it would have been better if that part was left out, in my opinion.
his leadership isn't bad, though he misses some obvious clues.
other than that, i really enjoyed listening to it. the narrator did a great job, and i will be looking forward to the next book.
not bad, but some flaws

The only thing I think this series needs is a dual narrator. With as much female dialog as is in the story. There really needs to be a female doing those characters.
The narrator did a pretty good job with the male voices. Could use some more emotion the bring the story to life.
All that being said I definitely recommend this book!
Excellent book! But needs to be dual narrated!

Like most other RPGs the protagonist plays a game. They are "uploaded into the game and instead of playing the game via controllers or keyboards are fully immersed into the game. most of the characters have had little or no experience in playing RPGs, so part of the plot is watching them learn how to interact with the game world. Meanwhile in the real world, there are hints of something more sinister going.
I agree with other readers that while the narrator does well with the male voices, something is missing with the female voices.
I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.
RPG or something more sinister?
