About this listen

Karl is worse than a newb. He doesn’t even like role playing games. Still, they did give him a choice: totally immerse or die.

Now Karl is on his very first adventure into the gaming world of Bridge Quest. It’s a world so real that it’s hard to tell the difference between NPCs and the players; where tastes, smells, sounds and experiences are so vivid you forget you’re in an artificial world. Except for those pesky popups and stats charts, Karl discovers he’s having more fun than in real life. He even gets to kill orcs, gnolls, trolls, and goblins, and then hang out with gorgeous women.

And the best part is that he’ll never die…at least that’s what they told him.

Unfortunately, there is one significant drawback – there’s no coffee.

overal, it is an enjoyable story, but with a few flaws. first of all, the first time gamer thing felt a bit forced. many things carl didn't know should have been obvious, even for non gamers. so i had some trouble getting through the first chapter.
second, he is supposedly ex military. but honestly, it didn't feel like he was. we keep getting references to his old military life, but from his behaviour i would dout he ever was any part of the military, let alone some elite soldier. it would have been better if that part was left out, in my opinion.
his leadership isn't bad, though he misses some obvious clues.
other than that, i really enjoyed listening to it. the narrator did a great job, and i will be looking forward to the next book.

not bad, but some flaws

the story was well written, the character development was pretty good for a first book. there is enough to keep you interested in them. I like the fact that the author has the mc act like a man. what I mean by this is.. he acts on his desires , he is also not afraid to speak his mind and do what is needed for his team.

the narration is done well. easy to listen too.

Good first book

MC is led around by his little head. Some holes throughout the story big ones.

another duffer

This was a excellent story. I really enjoyed and didn’t expect the authors take on being in a game. The characters were well thought out and I enjoyed the dialogue.
The only thing I think this series needs is a dual narrator. With as much female dialog as is in the story. There really needs to be a female doing those characters.
The narrator did a pretty good job with the male voices. Could use some more emotion the bring the story to life.
All that being said I definitely recommend this book!

Excellent book! But needs to be dual narrated!

This is the second Gamelit/Litrpg that I have listened to with a Mc that isn't an avid "Gamer". I feel like it really is a very different view of these VR game world type scenarios. Very interesting game world with intrigue wrapped real world events. Very enjoyable with great narration. Can not wait for more in the series.

Fantastic Gamelit

This is a great start for a multi book series. Be forewarned that the book does more slowly at the start, but picks up later. There are actually two plots to this book. One inside the game world and one outside in real life.

Like most other RPGs the protagonist plays a game. They are "uploaded into the game and instead of playing the game via controllers or keyboards are fully immersed into the game. most of the characters have had little or no experience in playing RPGs, so part of the plot is watching them learn how to interact with the game world. Meanwhile in the real world, there are hints of something more sinister going.

I agree with other readers that while the narrator does well with the male voices, something is missing with the female voices.

I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.

RPG or something more sinister?
