About this listen

Adapt or perish. Survival demands it.

As reality's grand show concludes and alien watchers abandon and reset Earth, the world dissolves into primeval chaos. Monsters roam, magic surges, and the survivors battle to reclaim their world. Humans are forced to adapt… or become extinct.

But humans aren't the only players in the game. Cunning mandrills now weaponize Earth's creatures, laying waste to the remnants of humanity. Warring dinosaurs, primordial monsters, and alien beasts complete this apocalyptic free-for-all, each hungry for their next kill.

Meet Colin, Jamestown's stalwart protector—and bait. For the last six months, he's struggled to keep his community alive, running raids for food on a nearby mandrill town. All that changes when he levels up into his new subclass. Now a Beastmaster, he befriends Noaich, a formidable six-legged crocodile. Together, they are fierce and deadly, and they'll redefine the meaning of evolution in this savage apocalypse.

Colin and Noaich must push their limits and level quickly to overcome monstrous threats. In this cutthroat game of dominance, only one rule matters: kill or be killed. Welcome to the struggle for survival.

It's a good story for middle schooler

To many holes on the story and character development needs a lot of work. Narrator was pretty good though

Different than most but not horrible

Overall it’s an okay book. I really would like more leveling, more explanation, more fleshed out skills and like more RPG all together. Being level 5 and already strong nearly killed the book for me.

Good listen

This is an enjoyable story that takes the newer approach of some litrpgs. It introduces us into the world after integration and some of the growing has already happened.
Overall the story was interesting and delivered on action and substance. The pacing was off for me and pulled me out of the story more than I would like to admit. The story is very solid though.
System seemed interesting as skills were their own little thing. Narration was good, some voices were hard to distinguish. Overall a very solid story with a good performance.

Great fist book to a new series

I think this was a great first book to a new series set in a world of dinosaurs and brutal creatures. Humans are just a snack here it seems!

Blandness.

MC’s lack of emotion. The story isn’t bad however it could have been much better if it hadn’t been whitewashed/softened of emotional content. The result was a boring listen which required a lot of rewinding due to inattention because of the excessive Blandness! I don’t blame the narrator either, he did the best he could with the material. My question is this: was the author afraid to offend emotionally?

Who's the sidekick now?

I've been on a big LitRPG kick for a while and appreciate when there's some backstory on how humans end up in a gameworld. This one had a unique twist.

Our main character actually has good common sense, not too much ego, doesn't leer at or discount women, and doesn't take himself too seriously. I like his character progression, and the way he doesn't automatically try to kill every. single. creature. I'm pretty tired of "kill 'em all and get the points" in LitRPG, makes me long for a series where the main character actually makes friends with all the creatures instead.

No'ech (sp?), Colin's sidekick/pet/smarter half, upped this from a 4 star to a 5 star listen.

One jarring thing to be aware of: The author uses 1st person point of view for Colin until about 3/4 of the way through and then starts tossing in occasional 1st person switches to other characters, without telling us, so I had fun figuring out whose head we were in a couple times. But the head-hopping did provide some much needed perspective on events.

I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

A nice read

Engaging characters. Interesting concept with decent writing and world building. Not at the Wandering Inn level but not bad at all. I'll read the sequel

Not bad!

Enjoyed the story. A bit to standard on the litrpg progression for me. I'll buy the next book.
