Clio Evans did an amazing job balancing the spice and the plot in this book. Cam is a dream cowboy with a dirty mouth and mind to match. The narrators did an amazing job bringing the character to life. I highly recommend adding this to your list of books to either read or listen to.

This was an awesome story! I laughed, teared up, and got angry. Sometimes all at once! Hailey’s character was terrific! However, I feel in love with Cam! I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THE SECOND BOOK IS ON AUDIBLE… and the third!!!

I liked the combo of small town romance and drama/suspense this story came to life with. The characters were interesting, the town was charming and the spice was surprisingly bold.

Broken Beginnings is very spicy! It also has good character development, romance, character redemption, and a good suspense plot! This is a good start to the series.

Love a good bully romance but she got over everything he did pretty fast and then the rest of their relationship progressed rapidly. I was hoping for a bit more push and pull but she ended up forgiving him basically right after he apologized and said/showed he was a different man. I think him having to grovel more to earn her forgiveness for what he did to her in highschool would have been more satisfying and would have built up the tension more. After she forgives him they pretty much fall in love (and into bed) instantly. I love some good angst so I think there was a missed opportunity here.

I loved the story itself and the small town vibes. wasn't a big fan of the fake southern accent. it just made certain parts sound really cheesy.

Broken Beginnings by Clio Evans was my first taste of this author and HOLY TEXAS TOAST was it delicious. This book had everything: small-town charm, found family feels, murder-mystery mayhem, a spicy second-chance romance, and enough tension to set your Kindle on fire.

Let’s talk characters. We’ve got Cam, the former high school bully turned golden-retriever bar owner with a growly protective streak and a serious soft spot for Hailey (which, apparently, started with some questionable teen behavior… classic “I’m mean to you because I secretly love you” logic 🫠). And then there’s Hailey, who returns to Citrus Cove after a traumatic event in Baltimore, not expecting to run smack dab into her past—or her soulmate.

From rekindling old flames to navigating literal danger around every corner, this story moves. The pacing is fast, the suspense keeps you guessing, and the romance is deliciously angsty in all the right ways. Bonus points for the strong sisterly bond between Hailey and Sarah, and the warm fuzzy feelings from Citrus Cove’s tight-knit community (who also aren’t afraid to throw a punch when needed 👏).

And now for the real tea (or should I say 🍷): THE. SPICE. IS. SPICING. We’re talking primal play, toys, consensual non-consent, booty stuff, and more. Clio did not come to play, she came to take your eyebrows clean off. And the dual narration audiobook? Chef’s kiss. The southern accents, the chemistry, the growls... yes, please.

This is the first in a three-book series featuring Cam’s family, and you better believe I downloaded the rest the second I turned the last page. If you’re in the mood for steamy Southern chaos, Broken Beginnings is calling your name.

Narrator: This is dual narration but the narrators did a decent job with the opposite sex voices. I absolutely loved Ash as Cameron.

Story: This is the first book in the Citrus Cove series. It is also a new genre for this author who normally writes monster romance. I absolutely loved it. The plot was thrilling with some suspense and mystery along with small town charm. The spice was top tier. Like one handed reading caliber. There was also a nice balance between plot and spice. I will definitely be continuing the series.

ohh boyyy this was a RIDE thoroughly enjoyed. Seriously, the twist at the end was WILD.

My ONLY complaint is how fast the couple got together given their history, but I'm not really all that mad about it.
