Publisher's summary

Nothing says welcome home like an irresistibly hot cowboy inviting himself into your shower.

I should have kicked him out the second he barged in. He's my brother's best friend, and we're living on a ranch in the same bunkhouse for the next three weeks. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

He's hell-bent on keeping his walls up. I'm a ball of stress, fresh out of medical school, determined to focus on my career and taking care of my family.

Despite the long list of reasons why it's a terrible idea, we jump into the burning ring of fire that is secret friends with benefits. As long as there are no strings attached, no feelings, and no kissing, of course.

Just when I think Gage will be a distant memory once I'm gone for good, my heart starts to run the show. Rules are broken, and lines are blurred.

Now, I wish the only big secret he's been keeping was me.

Smoking Gun is a brother's best friend, secret friends-with-benefits, small-town romance that brings the steam and the swoon! This book includes a happily ever after and is book one in the new cowboy romance series of interconnected standalones, The Bunkhouse.

Cowboy Romance with a Twist

🚿 Smoking Gun 🚿
Lainey Lawson
Bunkhouse #1

Well the it was the cover that originally sold me, plus the cowboy romance aspect and then I read it and I was sold all over again. This is a fast paced romance with a little bit of a suspense twist. Along with that you get all the things we love about cowboy romance…small town, forced proximity, brother’s best friend, friends with benefits and insta chemistry. I’ll be honest I wasn’t ready for the twist, but I wasn’t mad about it either…and the spice was 👌🏻👌🏻 I’m excited to head back to the Bunkhouse for book 2 Fire Away coming VERY soon!

Despite knowing it's a terrible idea, Blythe ends up in a secret, no-strings-attached friends-with-benefits arrangement with her brother's best friend, Gage, while living together on a ranch, only for her heart to complicate things.

Read if you vibe with…

Love a good cowboy with a side of mystery

I really loved the book, so when I saw the audio, I grabbed it and loved it even more.
The characters and how they talk to each other, just puts a smile on my face.
I love Megan Wicks audio, I grew up in the country and she really has that country grit to her voice.
Bryant was a new to me audio voice, but I really enjoyed him as well.

This will be a repeat listen for sure!

Book & Audio Review

I loved Blythe & Gage they were so fun, I loved the instant chemistry and the immediate tension. The banter between the MCs but also the side characters had me giggling. And the added mystery element made this a quick page turning read! the audio was so goooood like kicking my heals giggling good! Megan wicks is quickly becoming a favorites narrator of mine! Her voice and cadence are smooth like freaking butter. Bryant walker was the perfect Gage and was loving every second of it!

Hot Cowboy with a twist

🎧AUDIO REVIEW🎧
📚Smoking Gun by Lainey Lawson
🎤Narrated by Megan Wicks & Bryant Walker
Bunkhouse Series #1

Don't let this adorable cover fool you folks! That's what initially drew me in to want to listen but this cowboy romance is a whole lot more. It's cowboy romance goodness with a side of suspense that I was not expecting and it was great! If you're a lover of cowboy lovin' then you'll definitely enjoy this. All the things you love in a cowboy romance: small town, forced proximity, brother's best friend, friends with benefits & instant chemistry that's holy smokes off the charts.🔥 Not to mention a swoony, mysterious, gentlemanly cowboy named Gage! Howdy there cowboy! There's a twist in this story that I did not see comin' my way & it kept me on the edge of my seat.

Blythe comes back home after finishing medical school & there's nothing that says "Welcome Home" more than an irresistible cowboy who invites himself into your shower. Yep! You read that correctly, just up & lets himself in. Despite knowing it's a terrible idea, Blythe agrees to a "friends with benefits" relationship with her brother's best friend. When they meet, the chemistry is immediate & they both know it's forbidden but they can't help themselves & give in almost instantly. The spicy bits are spicy & they can't keep away from one another. Gage has secrets he's keeping from Blythe & she's got relationship issues that keep getting in the way but real feelings start to develop fast & it's obvious to both that this isn't just a fling. Some great found family vibes going on at the Bunkhouse that add to the charm of this story. Everyone is willing to sacrifice for each other. The last bit of the book felt a little rushed & throws you into a tailspin into Gage's past without much context. You do get up to speed but would have enjoyed a little more background leading up to that point.

🎧Let's talk narration: Both Megan Wicks & Bryant Walker are new narrators to me & I really enjoyed them. Walker has this sort-of slow way of speaking that fits perfectly with the small-town cowboy vibe. It was swoony as all heck & I'm very excited to listen to more of him. Wicks did a great job, voicing Blythe, the ever-pleasing daughter, reliable & smart small-town girl. I really enjoyed this duo and listening to the audio during the suspense & action was terrific! All in all, a very enjoyable story that's quick, fun & keeps you wondering what the heck is going on. Definitely recommend!
