About this listen

But Your Mother Loves You is the witty and candid tale of how a renowned psychotherapist moved from “not good enough” to “the right person” despite childhood neglect and a toxic relationship with her mother.

Everyone knows at least one person who demonstrates toxic love, someone who consistently jabs a straw in others and sucks the life right out of them. Without an in-depth understanding of how to navigate these relationships, most people continue to emotionally regress and remain paralyzed in familiar, pain-soaked patterns. But Your Mother Loves You helps listeners overcome this cycle of toxicity. Kim Honeycutt shares the real-life experience of how a shame-based, self-destructive little girl grew up to be a recovered alcoholic, entered the world of psychology as a professional, and created her own strategies to address and conquer toxicity. This story, both witty and practical, is told through the lens of personal life experience and expert psychological strategies combined with Godly intervention. Listeners learn how to either walk away from or walk with a toxic loved one without losing themselves.

Covered in both vulnerability and clinical information, But Your Mother Loves You provides a step-by-step approach on how to stop toxic love and the subsequent self-abuse.

This was an incredible book, and helped with my healing. The authors vulnerability and openness to help others heal was truly amazing. Definitely recommending this to friends, family, and maybe I’ll get it for my mother for Christmas🤣 Highly recommend!!

Listen to the end!

I almost stopped reading a couple times, and took a couple breaks. This story might at first make you feel like it’s yet another “my childhood is to blame” story, and that isn’t one hundred percent untrue. But it’s so much more- a story of how Good works in our lives. Slowly and perfectly.

Interesting but not a “how-to”

Overall, I enjoyed listening. The narration was good and the general story and pacing were well presented. This book would have been better subtitled “How I Overcame the Cycle of Toxic Love...” because while some of the ideas presented are universal, this was very much one woman’s unique story. There were some great passages and take-aways. Though it was not what I expected, in that it wasn’t a more obvious “how-to” I would recommend listening because it does offer a well read, compelling story of a women figuring out her place and purpose in life.

Meaningful Message

I almost didn't listen to the entire book. First part turned me off. Once I got to the meat of the message, I was engaged. Her message is powerful. I will listen to it again and recommend it to friends.

Raw and Honest

I struggled with this book at times simply because of its honesty and relatability. Many people go through similar parental relationships as this, and hearing the truth in book form was difficult at times. This is a powerful book of self-discovery and truth that many of us need to hear. The ugly truth and how to overcome, and be a better version of yourself. This is an excellent read!
