Publisher's summary

The title of this audiobook, Can I See Your Hands, refers to one of the key outcomes of this audiobook - being able to tell whether or not people want to cause us harm. To put it very simply, if you can see someone's hands and they are not concealing them, holding a weapon or positioning to strike you, one's levels of trust and confidence can increase. This simple example can serve as a reminder to all of us in many of the complex moments we have to deal with, and difficult decisions we have to make, in everyday life.

Surprisingly good

I found this very interesting and consumable. I can switch off if a book isn't resonating with me and I was captivated through the entire book. I made a note to revisit this again in six months. While some of it may seem obvious.... when it is presented with anecdotal evidence I found it really enjoyable and relatable.

Not what I thought it would be

The information was basic, there was a point i almost stopped the book when the author began blaming violence on Video Games & Movies. I had access to both and turned out fine (Without a Criminal Record)

Enjoyed the book and the information strsight to the point. By the end of the book, I became more aware to the things in my life that were a vulnerability, and how to make myself a harder target. Well done book.

Read Gavin DeBecker’s book instead.

This book seems to be a collection of information gleaned from other sources and presented as new material. Most of the book involved definitions of acronyms and informing the reader that certain skills are necessary to be safe. For example, situational awareness- the author gives a definition followed by a statement such as “it’s important to have situational awareness.” No examples or case studies ever given in the book just a regular reminder that “we’ve trained thousands of people in these skills” which suggests the book is an ad for a paid training class they wish to promote.

BTW, this book and all others on the subject of personal safety reference Gavin DeBecker and his book “The Gift of Fear”. I very highly recommend you save time and go straight to that book instead of wasting your time on this book.
