About this listen

Humanity listened to the night sky. What we heard shattered the world. Listen. Just once. That’s it. As soon as you hear it, it has you. And once it has you, it’s over. You may think you’re in control. You’re not. You want one more listen. You want to look at that strange spot in the sky. The one that’s been slowly growing. The one that didn’t make sense...until you listened. You want to listen again, and you will do whatever it takes to make everyone else listen. By any means necessary. Even if it kills you.

Just one more listen. One more. Listen.

A formulaic zombie slog

It's okay. The positive reviews helped me choose this book, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. It's very easy to drift off and stop paying attention to it because nothing really matters. The book progresses like a video game level. The bad guys get a little bit stronger in every chapter, and the characters get just enough XP and powerups to finally win in the end. There's even a final boss. It's alright if you just want to listen to something while doing some chores, but I was ready for it to be over long before it ended.

Bradbury meets King

A little Bradbury and a little King- very fun pop-scifi/horror! Worth the credit

A book about farming

Carrier Wave is a collection of short stories following a variety of characters, some returning, some unfortunately not. With an overarching theme of farming. Gave me some of the weirdest dreams I've ever had

Apocalypse Anthology

Well narrated. Fun story, if gruesome violence and pulp horror is fun. Won't make you reevaluate your life, but it will entertain

There is little charcter based through-line for much of the book, and the short time we spend with each character means many come off as rather one-note in an attempt to give the reader some attribute to latch onto.
Still, the apocalypse in question is unique and interesting enough, and multiple-perspective drip-feed of info about it is engaging enough to be worth a read.

A Little World War Z with a Dash of Cosmic Horror

Carrier Wave was a pleasant, gruesome surprise. For those familiar with World War Z, this follows a similar basic format without coming across as a cheap copy. The book is composed of a series of vignettes covering the inception of the apocalypse through to the post-post-apocalypse. I found the earliest chapters to be a little weaker in terms of character and humor, thus the four stars. Without spoiling the story, there are worse things than mere zombies and crazed survivors in this apocalypse, and the story managed to surprise me a few times as it kept raising the stakes. The narrator also did an excellent job conveying a wide range of emotions and fantastically ghastly scenes.

Don’t sleep on this

This is the book people think World War Z is, but with more teeth and heart and guts. Plus it’s funny and genuinely creepy.

different take end of the world enemy

the stories drags out a bit and the narrator's voices for each character isn't different enough to be able to tell them apart at a certain point of the audiobook. At times I felt I was forcing myself to finish it but I'm glad I did.

It wasn't the world war Z copycat I have been looking for but some of the chapters and characters really stood out.

very happy with the audiobook especially since it's included with audible.

Epic, apocalyptic, scary (af), touching and funny

This is a long read (listen) but on the best of ways. Robert's previous experience as a comedic writer shines here by using very subtle humor to lighten the (intended) dread which permeates the whole saga.

I think this is what perfectly crafted novel should be and invoke. A complete spectrum of emotions summoned by painfully well developed characters.

An amazing work of art.
