About this listen

A ragged newcomer...with a secret even he doesn’t know

A backwater city...with a countdown to an explosion no one is expecting

A secret Covenant...and a conspiracy to break it to pieces

Jason Kilkenny is a new arrival in the Canadian city of Calgary. Unlike most newcomers, Jason isn’t looking for a job in oil and gas: he’s a half-fae changeling that wants to get away from the politics of the inhuman races.

He soon learns that despite being a supernatural backwater, the city is run by a near-godlike Wizard - and the shadows are full of unseen dangers. Jason’s here to hide, but he finds himself called to service by Calgary’s understaffed Fae Court.

As supernatural politics collide in his new home, Jason’s plan to keep his head down is shattered and he finds himself testing the limits of his meager gifts. He cannot run, he cannot hide...and if he loses, he loses everything.

This is a series I keep listening to and has become a favorite. Relaxing performance, solid world building and great plot. Once you listen to it multiple times, it becomes a favorite to throw on for background noise. I'm glad I stumbled upon this as I've enjoyed multiple series from this author as a result.

Enjoyable with a fresh take on the supernatural

I've reread the series a couple times, and I keep hoping Glynn and Alexander continue the story.

Great Series!

I have read this book previously but found myself in need of a audio book to lessen to fast and decided to give the audio a go. The story is amazing which I expected as I had previously read and loved the book.

I am so sure if I like the narrator or not though and is a bit frustrating as a result. The narrator has a southern accent (I have to assume this part as I'm from Seattle) which goes perfectly with the main character who is from the south. But he speaks so slowly, it's not annoying but is not what I'm used to. My sister doesn't like the narration but I found that I did not take away from the story.

not sure about narrator

Most enjoyable. Jason Kilkenny, the protagonist is an interesting character. He is a half-Fae changeling, a new comer to Calgary and trying to just get a job and live a normal life. But instead he finds himself being pulled into the supernatural world and end up helping the humans and non-humans in need. An excellent hero. Glynn Stewart is one of my favourite writer and his books are so good. The narrator, Alexander Edward Trefethen did quite well and his voices for the different characters is easy to differentiate. I hope book 2 will be published soon.

EXCELLENT START TO A NEW SERIES

If you could sum up Changeling's Fealty in three words, what would they be?

Remove the need to have the (very good narrator) use a southern accent for the protagonist. This is not his fault as the accent is a minor plot point but I found it jarring. the reader does not try canadian accents for the Calgary natives so there is a whole heavy southern drawl juxtaposed with standard USA newsreader accents for most of the rest of the cast.

What did you like best about this story?

the world building and the politics of the non human types set in a Canadian city. The abilities deferential between the various races of the unhumans that are delineated so well by the author.

What three words best describe Alexander Edward Trefethen’s voice?

uneven individual characterization

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

yes but it would be a major spoiler to discuss it

Any additional comments?

The story is more than good enough for me to want to read future episodes but the accent problems I have will mitigate against getting the audible versions

I find this book more fun to read than to listen

I loved this book. It was fast paced enough to keep me engaged throughout the book. The characters maybe fictional but they are believable and likable.
The narrator was excellent.
This book is absolutely worth a credit!

Exceptional Book!

All of Glynn Stewart's works follow a basic formula, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. This isn't a story that requires deep thought our analysis -- it's a mystical romp through one of Stewart's well-crafted worlds. The story is intricate but not complicated, a standard progression of pawn to the furthest rank, at quick time it is elevated to great power and authority. But the character earns it's enlargement.

This story fulfills this pattern well, and entertains as it happens. The characters are likeable and well formed. The villains are vicious and venal and crafted to their roles. It isn't Dune, but heck, it'd be boring of every story was.

A good read. You won't regret picking it up.

A tad formulaic, but still excellent
