Publisher's summary

Cynthia "Cyn" Robinson has only ever wanted three things: the approval of her stepmother, to save lives as a firefighter, and the attention of her dream girl, Marigold Grimm.

A socialite who most of the town refers to as Grimm Falls royalty, Marigold is so far out of Cyn's league that even dreaming about her could be considered inappropriate.

And Cyn has all but given up on her stepmother, who refuses to accept a daughter who does not delight in wearing dresses and working in her clothing boutique. Cyn tried to be that girl ever since she and her father moved to Grimm Falls, but sooner or later, she always turns back into a pumpkin.

One thing Cyn does have is her job. She's a great firefighter, and when an arsonist strikes her beloved town, she's ready to forget the unfulfilled parts of her life and throw herself into work - until Marigold Grimm's beloved garden becomes the firebug's next target.

Cyn puts out the blaze, but there's more than one type of spark flying as Cyn and Marigold meet. Is her dream girl really within reach, or will it all go up in flames?

Contains mature themes.

Unique spin

This story is so sweet and steamy I love it! The others are just as good.

Loved the story but the narrator had a harsh tone.

I really enjoyed this read! It’s a well written twist on Cinderella. I also love that Cyn is Butch. It’s well written and kept me interested the whole book. I actually finished it in just over 24 hours. My only problem was the narrator had such a harsh tone in parts of the book that I felt as if I was being yelled at. Since the story begins from the perspective of a an arsonist I thought she was trying to convey that mindset. However, throughout the book when reading any internal dialogue the near raider sounded extremely harsh like you were being yelled that or chastise instead of read to. Eventually a few chapters in it was easier to get used to but in the future I will probably buy the e-books.

Narrator sheesh

I’m honestly trying to be constructive because the narration really took me out of the story. The narrator narrated the story like they would perform a newscast announcement. Every single sentence was spoken with the same cadence. It’s almost harsh in the way that it’s read which meant that there were emotionally soft moments that didn’t feel soft because they were still red in that heightened, exaggerated, harsh tone. I think the narrator could sometime to work on the cadence and tone of the narration. Not to compare but Abby Craden has a lovely tone when she narrates it soft and almost quiet so when she does use motion in certain dialogue, it feels appropriate and soaks you into the story more. It’s a shame because the story was, but I really disliked the performance.

Snooze fest

Only made it to chapter 3 and can't bare anymore. Maybe if the narrator was even halfway decent I'd give the rest of the book a shot.
