Adventure. Competition. A duel to the death.

While on a journey to the famous city of Thronehold, Volke Savan learns of the Sovereign Dragon Tournament. The massive celebration involves hundreds of arcanists competing for fame and glory, and Volke is determined to win.

Dark forces dwell in the city, however, and rumors of the legendary world serpent spread amongst the shadows. Whoever bonds with a god-like mystical creature will gain magic beyond compare, and the queen’s guards suspect cutthroats will use the chaos of the tournament to hide their plotting.

Unsure of who to trust, Volke investigates the terrible rumors while advancing in the ranks of the tournament. Unfortunately, the true villain may be closer than he realizes....

Action, Schemes, and More Emotion

This latest volume in the series doesn't disappoint. We see our hero working through layers upon layers of plots and schemes. And while Luthere seems to take much more of a passive/back-seat role, we get more familiar with the emotions of major characters and what makes them tick. There's also some tugs on the heart strings. None of that, however, diminishes the the amount of battles and new powers being introduced. Definitely recommended. You will get much more out of the story if you are familiar volumes than if you start here, but I think it does enough help you catch on even if this is where you start.

Narration is on par with previous volumes and very well done. There is a good amount of energy and a nice range of voices for characters.

I received this audiobook for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Great story

One of the first series that legitimately has me hooked and thinking about it and certain outcomes when I'm not listening. 3 books in and I cannot wait to get to the rest of them. I will most definitely be listening to this series multiple times

Every book gets better and better!

I have loved this series from book 1 knightmare arcanist and this one does not disappoint! Shami Stovall builds even more on the world, introducing more and more eldrin and arcanists. The fighting and final chapters had me on the edge of my seat. Brian Wiggins is fantastic as narrator! You can tell he has a passion for these books because as the books get better so does he! I wish audible would have released the audio version same day as the physical copy but since they did not, I bought a copy. Through the whole thing I heard Brian's voice in my head and could not wait to hear his work on this! Overall great read/listen! Highly recommend for all ages.

Oh No!

I hate it when a story is so good and I have to wait for the next release. So hurry, I've got to know what happens next.
This review is for books 1 thru 3.
Slow to start, but soon has you in it's clutches. Perfect character building for all. Just enough closure in each one leaving an ending with questions.
