Great way to practice for a hard conversation!
I am a business consultant and often work with younger professionals who need help being heard in an assertive, yet positive manner. I use both the book and the audiobook with my clients.
First, I have them read the book and give them customized practice assignments from it. Then, together we listen to the audiobook to hear Jill deliver the difficult message. She is a wonderful narrator and always sounds natural and confident, never angry or strident. Then we practice the words, the inflection, the confidence. Finally, we go on to role-play the conversation, making Jill’s words their own, and tailoring the message for their particular situation.
I have clients who shake just thinking about an encounter with an employee or a mother-in-law. After the practice sessions, they are able to get through the discussion, get everyone’s needs met, and not die!
And every time they don’t die, they get a little stronger.

Such a great audiobook. I learned a lot
The author Jill has a great voice for this! I enjoyed learning about how to solve workplace conflict. I’ll be saying “think about Kenny” every time i find myself if a sticky situation.
