Publisher's summary

Bloomsbury presents Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas, read by Elizabeth Evans.

Never trust an assassin.

Celaena’s story continues in this second book in the #1 bestselling Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas.

Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become the King’s Champion. But she is far from loyal to the crown. Though she goes to great lengths to hide her secret, her deadly charade becomes more difficult when she realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. Her search for answers ensnares those closest to her, and no one is safe from suspicion—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a princess with a rebel heart.

Then, one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie . . . and what she is willing to fight for.

The second book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series returns listeners to a land destroyed by liars, where one woman’s truth is the only thing that can save them all.

Feels like a 5 footer story

I love the book don’t get me wrong. The narration is amazing, you’re able to tell who is who with the voices and she speeds up and slows down as the story needs. The story itself overall feels like she’s only moved 5 feet from the first book. Celaina kept toying around and when it got down to the end of the book it sort of felt rushed. Looking at the entire timeline of this series this book runs short. Again, I loved the book and it showing the relationships growing and dying, I just feel like this book could have been halved.

Slow, but good.

I struggled through this book because I get bored very easily. BUT, it was worth it.
it's a good story, but unnecessarily long.

Growing expectations met with every chapter

When I began the first installment of the series I was intrigued by the author but thrown by the readers intonation and seeming lack luster enthusiasm toward the story itself. After finishing this sequel the reader has seemed to grow fervently in the story telling matching the intensity brewing in the story. I’m along for the ride and can’t wait to dive into the next book.

Better and better!

I love this series more and more with each book I read! All of the twists and turns, some expected and some unexpected. As far as the romance part….It’s kinda like the Vampire Diaries and whether you are a Stephan or Damien fan….but with this it’s either you are Team Chaol or Team Dorian. I like Dorian. He has some really good qualities, but I choose Chaol. I will always choose Chaol. Ha Ha….I couldn’t help myself with that one. But in all seriousness, I am Team Chaol all the way.

Can’t wait to keep going!

4.5/5
While the ending was predictable I loved the story writing behind it all. I’m sure there’s more in the pages than I realize right now at this stage of the series. As always I have my “war room” going with the world building connections I expect to see. Love the clues & breadcrumbs dropped along the way. Overall there we’re relationship changes and twists & turns. This story is heart wrenching and so fun !

The narration is fantastic & I am able to listen to the stories at a 1.7 speed.

Favorite series

This book is sad. It is a sad book and it is also a happy book and it is a heart-wrenchingly good time. The second half of this book flies faster than the speed of light, but that is an SJM specialty. This series holds a special place in my heart and this book is everything I remember and more the second time around
