About this listen

A catastrophic plague pandemic with a one-in-a-million survival rate. A mysterious radio code that precedes the disappearance of survival colonies. A desperate fight to save the remaining survivors from annihilation.

After fleeing Los Angeles during the last, desperate throes of the DRYP pandemic, medical resident Susan Barry and critically injured oil company executive Alan Wheeler know their toehold on survival in rural Liberty Valley won’t last. They need food, fuel, and help. At first, they reach out to other survivors by radio, but when a mysterious code starts, the other survival colonies disappear from the air one by one.

Are the encrypted messages and the disappearances related? As Susan, Alan, and their fellow survivors race to crack the code, one thing becomes clear: something or someone is out to destroy the last of surviving humanity. The question is who and why - and will the Liberty Valley survivors find out in time to make a stand?

Fantastic Sequel

I actually liked this book better than book 1. There is more action, and we get to know the surviving characters from the first book even better. The novel starts only days after the last book left off, when the last of civilization is dying, and survivors are gathering in small settlements across the West Coast, trying to restart some semblance of civilization. The effort doesn’t go well, and the characters from the first novel wind up in a battle for their lives. Great story and definitely worth the credit!

You won’t be able to stop listening!

Anxiously awaiting book 3. Found this series while finding books narrated by Johnny Heller. So very glad, new favorite author!

Awesome series!

Really enjoyed listening to this series. This installment brings the survivors from the first book together and answers some of the leftover questions from book 1. Great tempo, smart writing, and excellent narration. Waiting for book 3!

Not bad, but I found myself losing interest

Some parts of this book are great. Others…. Well I lose interest reading about Susan wrestling with non-issues. Characters came and then disappeared. Not sure why. I am still not sure what happened at the end. Basically needs an edit. But you will probably find enough to keep your interest if you persevere

Intense storyline. Couldn't stop listening.

Loved the story. Real people trying to live in a post apocalyptic world. Narrator did a good job with the various characters. Definitely worth the listen.

Great Story with Fantastic Narration

Great story, looking forward to the final book. Johnny Heller is my absolute favorite narrator and I'm systematically listening to all of his books. This one has story that is gripping and made me stay up late to finish it!

Return to stereotype

DRYP 1 was an interesting straightforward medical apocalypse thriller. No zombies. No plucky survivalists struggling to make it on an isolated farm. No marauding gangs of military or religious extremists. Well, DRYP 2 doesn't give us zombies, but it does return to the same tired story line we've seen in dozens of post apocalypse books and movies. I expect zombies to make an appearance in book 3 but they will have to shamble on without me. Book 1 was worth the money. Book 2 definitely was not. No way I'll spend $18 on book 3.

Just Okay

I really wanted to love this, but it was just okay. Same plot as every other post-apocalyptic book out there. Even though 99 percent of the population is dead the survivors try and make it 100 percent. I am searching for another The Last Tribe by Brad Manuel the only book I have read that didn't use that tired scenario. I know I am in the minority when it comes to violence but I will keep hoping. I enjoyed book 1 more than this one. Not sure I will read book 3. Never really felt anything for any of the characters. While I didn't hate the book I doubt I would recommend it to anyone. It was just meh.
