About this listen

Audie Award - Finalist 2023!!

Former Navy SEAL Jedidiah Johnson returns to Nashville ready to begin his training with the elite warriors known as the Shepherds. He thinks he knows what to expect when he arrives on the sprawling, state-of-the-art facility but quickly realizes he’ll have to find his place as the rookie leader of a new team. Then he starts having visions of an imminent attack overseas, and with the clock ticking, Jed and his team are dispatched to neutralize the threat. All the while, Jed hears whispers of another threat . . . a name that raises unexplained fear and anger throughout the Shepherds organization.

Once a military man, Nicholas Woland betrayed the Shepherds and all they stood for when he joined their enemies. After years in prison, Woland is eager to get back in action spreading chaos and death. And he has been freed for a purpose: a sinister plot that will result in hundreds of casualties and incite worldwide religious warfare for years to come.

As Woland and the Shepherds race toward a collision, Jed must rely on his gifts, his training, and his untested team to make critical decisions on a global stage―never realizing that a secret servant of the enemy is growing closer and closer to him.

Really enjoyed the story and perspective

I really enjoy the books these two have written. I love these type of thriller novels. One of the things I really appreciated is the spiritual aspect and Christian view in the story. While in the real world spiritual warfare may not happen like this, there is still a spiritual battle going on. We all have different views and beliefs on what that might look like. For me this book reminded me that there is still a spiritual battle going on. I also like that none of the characters are perfect and all have a past with struggles that they still battle. Everyone enjoys different types of stories and has different beliefs. For me I really enjoyed these and can't wait for the next book in the series.

I find when people leave reviews with other authors it helps me find other series/ authors to check out and it helps give me a perspective of their review. If it helps you, these are some of the authors I have followed and read/listened to most of their books: Brad Thor, Clive Cussler, Ben Coes, Jack Mars, David Baldacci, Mark Greaney, Brett Battles and Vince Flynn/Kyle Mills to name a few.

6 out of 5 starts

These authors are amazing and their win streak continues! I’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this book and it does not disappoint. Between the fantastic writing and perfectly paired narration, Andrew’s and Wilson are unparalleled.
This book really makes me ponder some unexplainable things sometimes heard in the news. I appreciate the authors using fiction to challenge my paradigms.

Good Second Installment

Brian Andrews and Jeffrey Wilson put together a good second installment to the Shepherds series. Too often in a series the first book is really well done but the second will feel forced. That (for me) wasn't the case here. I thought it was a solid story continuing the lines from the first book.

Of course, MacLeod Andrews continues to do an excellent performance.

Easy listening

This series flows nicely. It’s nice to have a Christian perspective but not so overwhelmingly that it becomes hokey. I enjoy Brian Andrews writing and this collaboration works well with his style.

well done!

one of the best books on spiritual warfare since This Present Darkness. An ingenious blend of the physical and spiritual. Well produced, talented voice.

Great series!

I’m a huge fan of this series but I’m not a fan of the way they Victor’s voice changed from the first book.
It’s a bit over done and somewhat distracting.
It seems they traded the original voice and gave it to Woland.
That being said I really like the narrator’s voice in the other roles.
Amazing storyline!!

Exceptional book

Dark Angel is the second book in the Shepherds series and it is exceptional. It’s refreshing to read or listen to a book that talks about the spiritual battle that is taking place within each one of us and in the world around us. God is real and Satan is real and both wish to have us on their side. Without giving too much of the plot away, I appreciate that the authors showed that when you choose to serve evil, or as they call it “the dark ones”, the devil will always abandon his followers. The devil uses people to do evil, to cause chaos, stir up anger and hate. Only God offers unconditional love, peace, forgiveness and joy. I love the Shepherd series. Please keep writing them!
