About this listen

From Brandon Sanderson—author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Stormlight Archive and its fourth massive installment, Rhythm of War—comes a new hefty novella, Dawnshard. Taking place between Oathbringer and Rhythm of War, this tale (like Edgedancer before it) gives often-overshadowed characters their own chance to shine.

When a ghost ship is discovered, its crew presumed dead after trying to reach the storm-shrouded island Akina, Navani Kholin must send an expedition to make sure the island hasn't fallen into enemy hands. Knights Radiant who fly too near find their Stormlight suddenly drained, so the voyage must be by sea.

Shipowner Rysn Ftori lost the use of her legs but gained the companionship of Chiri-Chiri, a Stormlight-ingesting winged larkin, a species once thought extinct. Now Rysn's pet is ill, and any hope for Chiri-Chiri’s recovery can be found only at the ancestral home of the larkin: Akinah. With the help of Lopen, the formerly one-armed Windrunner, Rysn must accept Navani's quest and sail into the perilous storm from which no one has returned alive. If the crew cannot uncover the secrets of the hidden island city before the wrath of its ancient guardians falls upon them, the fate of Roshar and the entire Cosmere hangs in the balance.

Another great interlude in the Cosmere Saga. Sanderson's ability to take us readers on an amazing journey with minor characters is always fun and his endings are always exciting and so full of simultaneous action.

Well worth it

the story surprised my already high expectations and is one of my favorite stories set on Roshar and pretty high in the cosmere. the narration reminded me why I love Kramer and Reading.

better than I ever expected

I have flown through the entire Stormlight Archive series, thanks to these audio books. The narrators bring Sanderson's writing to life in such an engaging way, that I am almost compelled to continue listening.

Specifically, this story explores a side character of little importance to the main story, but this book does such a good job fleshing out the world a bit more. If you are a stormlight fan, you'll definitely enjoy this book.

Yet another great Stormlight Novel!

Great novella!

Sanderson's stories, as well as the narration of Kramer and Reading, is as excellent as ever. The only ambivalence I'm feeling, is to its length.

It is one of the shorter books in The Cosmere, and I would have liked it to be longer. However, I'm not certain that would have made it better.

The story contains small tidbits of information on the Cosmere that long time fans will enjoy. And the ending ties up rather neatly, without too many loose ends, and no jarring cliffhanger.

Top quality, but a little short

I found it intensely jarring that the enemy infiltrator is like "See that woman that can't talk. She's been telling people of the grande glory this expedition has at the end. It's suspicious. Too Eager. She must be sabotaging us." *You look over* *She gives thumbs up* "I'm sold tell me more."

Was Ok

Michael Kramer and Kate Reading embedded the wonderful world that Brandon Sanderson has created with the most enjoyable life and meaning. As a part of the Cosmere Dawnshard continues to enthrall and entertain!!

Wonderful!!

The changed tone of this story invites the listener to an exciting journey at sea. I liked the seafaring attitude, the focus on sailing customs, and the theme of adventure to a mystery island.

A swashbuckling sea side-quest
