About this listen

From Brandon Sanderson—author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Stormlight Archive and its fourth massive installment, Rhythm of War—comes a new hefty novella, Dawnshard. Taking place between Oathbringer and Rhythm of War, this tale (like Edgedancer before it) gives often-overshadowed characters their own chance to shine.

When a ghost ship is discovered, its crew presumed dead after trying to reach the storm-shrouded island Akina, Navani Kholin must send an expedition to make sure the island hasn't fallen into enemy hands. Knights Radiant who fly too near find their Stormlight suddenly drained, so the voyage must be by sea.

Shipowner Rysn Ftori lost the use of her legs but gained the companionship of Chiri-Chiri, a Stormlight-ingesting winged larkin, a species once thought extinct. Now Rysn's pet is ill, and any hope for Chiri-Chiri’s recovery can be found only at the ancestral home of the larkin: Akinah. With the help of Lopen, the formerly one-armed Windrunner, Rysn must accept Navani's quest and sail into the perilous storm from which no one has returned alive. If the crew cannot uncover the secrets of the hidden island city before the wrath of its ancient guardians falls upon them, the fate of Roshar and the entire Cosmere hangs in the balance.

My new favorite part of the cosmere

A truly excellent companion book to this crazy series! some excellent and authentic moments between the characters and a greatly important plot point for the future of the series.

Sublime

The narrators like always are awesome. I am a huge fan of Michael and Kate. They are an amazing duo. Brian's stories are always terrific. Just when you think you understand the dynamics of his worlds, he expands them without seeming forced or noncoherent. He is without a doubt, a master of his craft. I can't wait for more of the Cosmere to be revealed

Great story but far too short!

I listened to this audiobook after reading the 4th book in the Stormlight series. In hindsight I would have preferred to read Dawnshard between books 3 and 4 as that this the timeframe it is set in. Regardless, this was a fantastic story but far, far too short in my opinion. That said, I very much appreciated it for the back story of Rissin and Chiri-chiri, as well as Lopen. No matter where you are at in the Stormlight series, you will not regret adding this book to your reading list.

A novela worthy to be in the Stormlight Archive

This book felt like the story was taken out of the main novels and put together as a self standing unit. This means the level of character depth and development are on par with the books in the main storyline.
I loved it and would recommend it to any Stormlight fan.

Another Excellent Adventure

Incredible is another good word to use here. Not sure exactly how much time has passed since Oathbringer, and I think it mentions it in the book, but I didn't commit that to memory, anyway, there has been some time passed and the war is not particularly going either way yet, perhaps slightly towards the Knights Radiants, but certainly not fast enough. Anyway, in an effort to make sure the enemy is not making more ground in an area where many people have been lost or stripped of their stormlight, it is decided to send in a lone ship to spy it out. Things of course do not go as planned in many different ways, but in Mr. Sanderson's excellent style each main character going through it learns or remembers something profound. The three that really affected me are:
1) Closeness to someone does not negate the possibility of that person betraying you and yet still be ready to listen to their side and patch things up to whatever level you can handle.
2) Not liking the actions of someone is nowhere near hating them, yet can provide just as much an opportunity for forgiveness on both sides.
3) Protecting loved ones from you can be just as worthy a task as protecting them or even yourself from others.

All in all, I'd call this a very worthy addition to the Stormlight Archives series!
