About this listen

The complete 8-book zombie apocalypse series, Dead South, is now available!

The Dead Can't Bury the Truth...

Three years after an incurable virus spread and turned a majority of the population into mindless and cannibalistic creatures, the world is a barren place. Society is broken, and most who remain have banded together in small camps and communities.

Jon South is not like most other survivors.

After losing his wife and son nearly two years into the pandemic, Jon now wanders the country roads and woods of rural Tennessee, a vigilante taking his revenge out on the undead monsters that took his family from him. He lives in solitary, and with nothing more to live for, he plans to die alone, sooner rather than later.

But after coming to the aid of a pair of strangers out in the woods being attacked by men, Jon learns that he might have been fighting the wrong monsters the entire time.

Sometimes a little to repetitious. One problem after another. No down time in between problems.

Just could not finish this one. The story dragged. Nothing held my attention. Too wordy.

good flow, the story held my interest and I enjoyed the characters. I enjoyed that you had different groups that shouldn't get along but did when all hell broke loose.

good flow, kept my interest. I enjoyed the characters

Great series just wish there was more detail at the end. A-lot of realism’s and gore as well.

This was my first journey into Bohannon’s post-apocalyptic world and I thoroughly enjoyed it! This audiobook collection starts fast and keeps the high-pace throughout. The narrator for the story perfectly (I listened at 1.2 speed and it sounded natural), covering male and female roles with ease. Zombies, a likable yet rough around the edges MC, and a diverse cast of characters added dimension to this series that’s sadly missing in so many others these days. A great listen/read!

I Loved This Series!

I’ve read all the post apocalyptic zombie movies that have shown up on here; this was is ok… predictable. The author thinks about developing the characters but then draws back. Most characters are very shallow but overall, entertaining. Just don’t expect anything new.

Decent enough

Story was ok, I was looking for zombie apocalypse book. This series didn’t do much on the zombie side as I’d like.

Zombie books minus the zombies

I enjoyed the series, it kept me entertained, nothing really stands out from others in the genre but if you enjoy the genre you'll probably enjoy this. it's also good value for a credit

What I did like was that the zombies remained a threat alongside the people. Of course like most zombie apocalypse books people take over as a main threat, but unlike others in the genre the zombies never become a trivial threat to be casually slaughtered by the dozens. they still present a threat and obstacle.

Characters were a weak point. Side characters were likeable but not really developed. They often felt more like tools for the main characters. The good side characters are willing to help and die for the main characters, while the villains hate John with a passion. I can't quite figure out why because he's not particularly special or charismatic. Yet everyone bends over backwards for him, tells him they need him, etc.

the main characters are frustrating. They keep talking about wanting to find a safe place, but leave every safe place. Their motivation is taking care of their boy, but keep making decisions contrary to that. John keeps talking about not expecting others to help, but then begs them to help him, even against their own best interests, then just moves on after they've served their use to him. At one point he has an internal monologue where he questions all these things. "Am I making the wrong choice leaving the group? They've sacrificed a lot for me, it's a place to settle down, kids around for some normalcy for the boy. Is it right to leave". I thought, finally some self awareness. Then he's just like "nah, I'm making the right choice". ugh

I'm all for flawed characters, but they don't feel written with the intent of being flawed, they just seem to lack self awareness. Side characters seem to be aware of the this lack of self awareness, but never call it out, they just kinda seem to chuckle and be like oh well some of us died for him, but what are you gonna do?

Entertaining but frustrating

good series but after a while got pretty predictable. the thing that stood out was every time possible beth would do something stupid.
