About this listen

In historian Lottie Albright’s western Kansas community, false accusations threaten senatorial candidate Brian Hadley’s political career. Secrets whispered to Lottie as editor of the county history books spur her into a personal search for his aunt’s murderer.

Lottie ignores warnings from her twin sister, Josie, that she is in over her head, and dons a badge to gain access to information. Does she really think she can combine historical research methods and police procedure? To help her sister, Josie adds her expertise in untangling the web of families bound by a lethal legacy of prideful secrets. But a clever killer, threatened by the two women’s ability to connect the dots, begins to stalk Lottie.

Blindsided by her protective husband’s disapproval of her new job and aghast at a bizarre attempt to sabotage her academic credentials, Lottie fears that her obsession is destroying her marriage and her reputation.

Enjoyed the story

Hinger is creative with an interesting story line and lots of plot twists. It's a good read, but not super fantastic. I haven't decided whether or not to continue the series. I had some issues with the narration. White does a great job voicing the different characters. Her reading style is expressive and animated. I enjoyed her style at first, but the constant staccato became its own kind of monotony. She gave as much expression to pouring a cup of coffee as she did the villain stalking to kill the lead character.

"Watch What You Wish For"

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Reader Karen White makes this story stand out. This is author knows how to tell a mystery without terror like Lisa Gardener or Karin Slaughter. Oh what a great listen of clues!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Our heroine and her twin as they stick together. Our hero Keith as he has so much potential. These are are not romance/ mysteries and are on the cerebral side rather than blood and gore. Great who done it story!

Which scene was your favorite?

when all the clues come together. Note: use the new 1.25x speed to really get the action out of this story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes, but you can't multi task or you miss the clue. great for a walk or exercise

Any additional comments?

see my review of book #3 which compliments reader and author. I had purchased that first and went back for #1&2 as they are that good.
