About this listen

Death at a Highland Wedding is the fourth installment in New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong's gripping Rip Through Time Novels.

After slipping 150 years into the past, modern-day homicide detective Mallory Atkinson has embraced her new life in Victorian Scotland as housemaid Catriona Mitchel. Although it isn’t what she expected, she's developed real, meaningful relationships with the people around her and has come to love her role as assistant to undertaker Dr. Duncan Gray and Detective Hugh McCreadie.

Mallory, Gray, and McCreadie are on their way to the Scottish Highlands for McCreadie's younger sister's wedding. The McCreadies and the groom’s family, the Cranstons, have a complicated history which has made the weekend quite uncomfortable. But the Cranston estate is beautiful so Gray and Mallory decide to escape the stifling company and set off to explore the castle and surrounding wilderness. They discover that the groom, Archie Cranston, a slightly pompous and prickly man, has set up deadly traps in the woods for the endangered Scottish wildcats, and they soon come across a cat who's been caught and severely injured. Oddly, Mallory notices the cat's injuries don't match up with the intricacies of the trap. These strange irregularities, combined with the secretive and erratic behavior of the groom, put Mallory and Duncan on edge. And then when one of the guests is murdered, they must work fast to uncover the murderer before another life is lost.

New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong’s unique time travel mystery series continues to entertain as Mallory adjusts to life in the 1870s.

Critic reviews

"The success of the book lies in the details: the vividly realized historical environment, the period-appropriate characters, and the thrill of watching a cop trying to adapt modern-day forensic techniques to an era in which they were utterly unknown. Series fans will be lining up for this one."—Booklist

"Time travel provides the framework for a captivating mystery and intriguing insights into life in 1870s Scotland."—Kirkus Reviews

I absolutely love this series and this author but sometimes her characters can be obtuse to a level of major frustration! This was another great installment but adds up to about the fifth time that Duncan “almost” admitted his true feelings. The characters are captivating and interesting but for grown intelligent people especially a detective they are aggravatingly naive or clueless sometimes. I somehow always end up frustrated but completely enthralled. I did think this particular story had one too many twists that just didn’t seem necessary. But, I also listened to the whole thing in two days. Kelley Armstrong really does bring the characters to life and the narrator does an amazing job depicting them.
I did particularly like the way this book included the back story without being overly repetitive. This was the first in the series where I had a really hard time figuring out the “who did it”. The prior books did a great job with the misdirection and making you question, but this one keeps you guessing until the very end. I will be impatiently waiting for the next story.

AAAHHH!! I’m in love and want to pull my hair out…

I absolutely love this series—I listened straight through and was genuinely sad when it ended. The characters are so well developed, and the narration is engaging and brings the story to life. I can’t wait for the next installment!

I love this series, although the slow burn of the romance between the 2 primary characters is a very slow burn & Im ready for something to happen! The mysteries are gripping & I love the characters! I can’t wait for the next installment!

It was lovely to see the characters outside of the city on holiday. I enjoyed discovering the drama amongst the guests and uncovering the mystery and secrets.

I felt like I was experiencing wedding festivities, between the excitement of the vacation, expectations and then feeling a bit out of place at such an event.

Then there was the murder!

I was happy to see some progress made for Mallory finding her place as a modern day detective/former thief-turned housemaid- turned budding forensic assistant in 1870, but was left frustrated with some setbacks along the way.

Overall, I love this series. I loved the performance. The writing was top notch. The characters are intriguing. I love the setting and the mysteries. I cannot wait to see where the story goes from here. Can not wait! :)

Great Addition to the Series
