About this listen

In the wilds of Alaska, someone sinister is hunting....

Alexandra Collister came to her estranged cousins' B and B in Falls Lake, Alaska, looking for a fresh start. The surrounding forest can be harsh and unforgiving - luckily, rugged wilderness tracker Quinn Mantell offers to be her guide. Still recovering from a toxic previous relationship, Alex is wary of getting too close, but when savagely deep claw marks appear outside her bedroom window, keeping her distance from Quinn is no longer an option.

Then a body turns up exhibiting the same ruthless slash marks, and Alex knows it isn't a coincidence. Something sinister is lurking in the woods around Falls Lake, turning Alex’s fresh start into a brutal game of survival. The murky veil of forest offers more threats than answers. Can Alex and Quinn find the killer before darkness falls for good?

Enjoyed it

I enjoyed the story. Yes, some of it was a little like what the heck why? But nice clean book to listen to in mixed company in the car on road trip with family.

Fade-to-black romance suspense

I am so sad we won't have any more books from this author, RIP.
This was a fade-to-black suspense romance that I really enjoyed, I will definitely be reading all her other suspense romance books. I really enjoyed all the survival info and tracking hacks this books shared, it made it so interesting and was very entertaining. Even though I listened to the audio, I did find it a bit repetitive, some things were repeated unnecessary.
I loved the narrator in this dual POV's in 3rd person. She did a great job with all the tones and there were lot of characters in this story. I especially loved hearing all the emotions from our characters in the narrator's voice, it really made for an emotional real.

Triggers: there are side characters that believe in hauntings and roaming spirits. Kidnapping. Over-dominant ex with stalker vibe.

Prefect for me

It was just what I needed in an audio book. Not scary suspense, but kept me guessing until the very end. Great descriptions of Alaska, too.

Fun story!

I enjoyed listening to this book. It’s kind of like a who done it book. It wasn’t overly predictable.

Irritated

I found myself getting irritated with this story. The reader actually ruined some scenes. I wanted to like this book. For some parts I would actually roll my eyes. He was so worried about her he left her and went to New York, I wonder what’s going to happen while he’s gone.... She is so terrified that she left her phone and her purse at home..,., Just irritating. I was going to get book 2 and see if it got better but it’s read by same narrator. So I may buy and read the book myself if it’s super cheap.

Waste of credit!

Most unlikable main character that is suffering survivors guilt upon learning as an adult she was one of two embryos to develop. So now the tragedy haunts her. Didn't get pass chapter 3.

Just. So. Cheesy.

At one point the main character actually compares her twin dying in the womb to a woman losing a family member. I wanted to like this so badly, but it's a cheese factory. Glad I bought it on sale.
