About this listen

Demonic possession. Exorcism. Haunted Houses. Satanic Rituals.

For most people this is the stuff of nightmares, horror movies, folklore, and superstition. For New York City police Sergeant Ralph Sarchie, it's as real - and dangerous - as midnight patrol….

A 16-year NYPD veteran, Ralph Sarchie works out of the 46th Precinct in New York's South Bronx. But it is his other job that he calls "the Work": Investigating cases of demonic possession and assisting in the exorcisms of humanity's most ancient - and most dangerous - foes. Now he discloses for the first time his investigations into incredible true crimes and inhuman evil that were never explained, solved, or understood except by Sarchie and his partner. Schooled in the rituals of exorcism, and an eyewitness to the reality of demonic possession, Ralph Sarchie has documented a riveting chronicle of the inexplicable that gives a new shape to the shadows in the dark.

In Deliver Us from Evil, he takes listeners into the very hierarchy of a hell on Earth to expose the grisly rituals of a Palo Mayombe priest; a young girl whose innocence is violated by an incubus; a home invaded by the malevolent spirit of a supposedly murdered 19th-century bride; the dark side of a couple who were literally the neighbors from hell; and more. Ralph Sarchie's revelations are a powerful and disturbing documented link between the true-crime realities of life and the blood-chilling ice-grip of a supernatural terror.

Scared to death

These are stories of true demonic accounts that will scare the hell out of you. People have shape shifted by turning to cats fand werewolves. This is not fiction. These accounts are very real. You need to pray to Jesus Christ to protect your mind, eyes, ears, body and soul. This is a hell of a writer and tells you about demonic spirits manifesting themselves in the physical. Don’t take this stuff lightly. You won’t be able to sleep.

Very interesting perspective!

I thought the book was great, I loved that it is written by a "regular guy". I wanted to get this book following the movie released of the same title. I expected the movie to be a vast departure from the contents of the book but I was very satisfied with all of the info and stories. Ralph consistantly maintains an approach that the reader can identify with. He is self admittedly, "not perfect, hot-headed, continously learning," and does not come across as an arrogant know it all. This man should be applauded for his bravery in both the spiritual and material world. In conclusion, I recommend this book both as an interesting story of one mans progression into the demonic as well as a great source of reference.

From one Demonologist to another…

As a religious demonologist myself, I just had to check this much-talked-about film/book. I love Ralph Sarchie’s no nonsense style of stating the facts and revealing the truth at the same time. I could totally relate to his description of why he felt the desire for “The Work”. “The Work” is a calling. It comes from a spiritual place. I usually tell people that the demonic are bullies, and I hate bullies. I hate seeing what they do to peoples lives. I’m just a regular person like Sarchie. A regular person who knows deep down that God has a plan for all of us.
Many may never understand “The Work”, and that’s ok. As servants of Jesus Christ, we know how important it is. There are evil things out there that would like nothing more than to rip our lives apart. I sleep better knowing people like Ralph Sargie are out there.

Narration is irritating

I really wanted to like this book but two things really got to me. First was the narration. The reader tried to spin a stereotypical New York cop accent which just failed and was more irritating than anything. Second was that there was way too much Jesus in this book. I get that region plays a role in curing paranormal activity, but I am not interested in hearing a sermon. The author states in the book that he wants his readers to walk away Jesus believers, but this was too much. Both were so irritating that I couldn’t even finish the book & gave up on it.

Outstanding

This book is full of great stories and an extra understanding of the dark forces that do exist. If there is goodness, love and righteousness in existance, then there is always an opposite, there is nothing that has no opposite of. I personally have an even greater understanding of some things that I have lived, witnessed and found some interesting missing pieces to these puzzles that I wondered about. If you are on a search for a better understanding to the unknown, maybe, just maybe this book will be of some enlightenment. In either case, the stories were told very well, with head scratching results and ah ha moments.

Annoying author gets in the way of decent stories.

This guy Ralph is a raging Catholic conservative which wouldn’t bother me so much if he didn’t sound so intolerant of anyone not not as harsh as him. His 1920’s mentality gets in the way of good paranormal stories. His “ghetto perspectives” are subtle but racially charged. I wanted to like this book but I so disliked the author it became difficult.
