About this listen

The beloved best seller has been revised and expanded for the fifth edition.

Jolene Brackey has a vision: that we will soon look beyond the challenges of Alzheimer's disease to focus more of our energies on creating moments of joy. When people have short-term memory loss, their lives are made up of moments. We are not able to create perfectly wonderful days for people with dementia or Alzheimer's, but we can create perfectly wonderful moments, moments that put a smile on their faces and a twinkle in their eyes. Five minutes later, they will not remember what we did or said, but the feeling that we left them with will linger.

The new edition of Creating Moments of Joy is filled with more practical advice sprinkled with hope, encouragement, new stories, and generous helpings of humor. In this volume, Brackey reveals that our greatest teacher is having cared for and loved someone with Alzheimer's and that often what we have most to learn about is ourselves.

Someone recommended this book and for that I am grateful. It has given me hope for the journey and preparation for the mental journey ahead. I look forward to being able to help my mother as she takes this memory lane back down to her childhood. It’s hard to know she will be leaving memories behind but finding the joy each day will be a challenge I pray God can help me enjoy.

This book is full of super helpful insights on understanding and tips for dealing with loved ones who have dementia. I am a little less scared and a lot more prepared for what lays ahead. So grateful for the hope it is providing me as I begin this journey with my mom.

My grandmother has been struggling with dementia and Alzheimer’s for a while now. We recently had to place her into a memory care unit. It has been extremely difficult on all of us. Even with my history working also as a CNA in a memory care unit, it’s so different when it’s your own family member. As her main caregiver, this book has helped me so much!! I have a young family and it’s often difficult feeling like I have to be two places at once and knowing I can’t help her like I want. Thank you for reminding me this is the best choice for her and I. The guilt at times can be very overwhelming ❤️
