About this listen

No rest for the weary.

With a second chance ahead of them and the moonshiner’s compound in the rearview mirror, Ben and his crew can resume their cross-country trek to Colorado. Or can they?

Three newly rescued acquaintances and another canine companion complicate their life on the road. And the addition of two more vehicles to their west bound convoy only adds to Ben’s responsibilities. Making matters worse, the open road quickly proves more hostile than they remember. Scarce supplies, extreme weather, and desperate miscreants have made the landscape a living hell. They soon find themselves fighting for survival once again.

Ben’s mettle and army training are put to the test in more ways than one, and he realizes it will take greater determination and cunning than ever before to stay on course. All while learning that help sometimes comes from the most unlikely places.

I can’t wait for book 10 to be on audible love the entire story and Andrew Tell as the narrator excellent choice.

Audible book 10

Wish the author didn’t decide to try and do one book for each new movement. He is very repetitive, far too much over explaining & inner dialogue. Shame, as the first several books didn’t do this and were good.

Overly wordy & repetitive, story premise decent

I'm enjoying this series for the most part but I do have to keep reminding myself not to get annoyed at the rather obviously contrived scenarios. The characters keep making incredibly stupid mistakes, the majority of which they really should know how to avoid by now, especially with Ben's Army Ranger training and experience plus everything else they've already been through. The result is that it's painfully obvious at times that the author is adding these contrived scenarios not only to set up for a future scene, but also to bulk out the story and make the series longer. It's funny that the books are still so short even after all of this finagling.

One thing in particular really, REALLY annoys me, though: if your dog is not obedient enough or well trained enough to obey voice commands the first time you give them, it shouldn't be off leash, especially in a dangerous, unpredictable, post-apocalyptic world. If these people could just figure out this basic tenet of responsible dog ownership, they could already have avoided some really dangerous scenarios. Not to mention keeping the dogs from drinking the obviously polluted rainwater that could very well be contaminated by radioactive fallout. And yet I'm not sure I've heard them even mention the word at any point in this series. Surely they could have found or looted a few leashes and collars by now, especially after the last place they were in. How could they not have figured this out by now? 🤔

Good Listen, Except For One Thing

The whole series is great, and the characters are well rounded and defined. The thinking is a little heavy worded but that is the only negative, except that the books could be longer so there are less of them.

Series Great

No psychological subtleties, just self propelled action. It's not the kind of audiobook I normally listen to, but I am enjoying it greatly, loving the credible challenges of a post apocalyptic world so similar to ours.

I'm so hooked on this series
