Publisher's summary

From New York Times bestselling author Karina Halle comes a seductive novel of riches, romance, and redemption.

In the Dumont fashion empire, no heir has a reputation as decadent, arrogant, and ruthless as that of Pascal Dumont. Every transgression, an indecent pleasure. Every woman, a conquest. And none is more challenging than his new personal assistant, Gabrielle Caron. She's defiant, alluring, and a mystery Pascal can't wait to solve.

A former family servant and daughter of the head maid, Gabrielle's returned as suddenly as she left eight years ago. No longer an awkward teen, the ethereal young beauty has amassed a wealth of resolve. She'll need it. In hire to the devilishly charming scion, she's come back for one reason only. And she dare not whisper why.

But as the nights grow more intimate at the Dumont maison, Gabrielle realizes that the last man she believed in is the one man she can trust with her secrets. For Pascal, falling in love means more than his own redemption. It could mean saving Gabrielle's very life as they confront a dark and scandalous past...together.

decent conclusion

The story was not as good as the first two stories in the series, but it was decent. The narration, however, was not good.

The female narrator was just ok but was very monotone. The male narrator was British and could not pull off a French accent. Most of the time, he slipped in and out of his pitifully attempt at a French accent. It was very distracting and detracted from the story.

He was also very monotone, and every character sounded the same, so keeping track of who was speaking was difficult.

Great

This was a really deep and heartfelt story. I didn’t enjoy the male narrator as much as the female. But this was another great story by Karina Halle!

Awesome...5 stars!

This entire series is excellent. The characters are well developed and interesting. The French accents seem over the top at times, but the men still sound very sexy. I highly recommend this series!

Revenge and Redemption

I've been intrigued by Pascal since book one and while I didn't like him I really wanted to get to know him. I'm a sucker for a good villain and while he was not the ultimate big bad of the Dumonts he was the villain in many people's stories. When he sees Gabrielle who used to be his fathers servant many years later he is drawn in by her aloofness to him. As they spend more and more time together they realize they have more in common than they thought. Gabrielle brings out his playful side which I loved and makes him question things he has desperately tried to ignore. There are of course some steamy scenes and their chemistry was off the charts! Overall I completely fell in love with this dysfunctional family.

Narration
The male narrator had big shoes to fill and unfortunately I didn't love it as much as the previous narrator. The French accent was not consistent and that was one of the things I loved about the other books. The female narrator is good but not a favorite of mine. For some reason her voice grates on my ears. I think her tone is just too harsh for me.

Disavow

I have consumed this series in the past two days and enjoyed this one the best. Maybe because Pascal was his father's Golden child until he wasn't. He had gone along with his father's schemes and went against his cousin and brother and now he is seeing what his father has become and now threatening notes are coming to the house. Are they for him or his father? Gabrielle has come back to France with revenge in her heart and with the goal of getting her mother out of the house of Dumont. She did not plan on going to work for Pascal but it gets her closer to her goal. These two were perfect for each other. Perfect ending to this series!

Narration was the worst **spoiler alert**ending revealed**

This series started off so good. I didn’t even mind the strange half finished cliffhanger type endings of the first books. But after all that listening the finale was a let down. I just want to say that death is not the worst that can happen to a bad guy. He tortured them through 3 books and all we get is a 30second death. 😢 not very satisfying or maybe I’m just really vindictive. 😈
I can’t stress enough how bad the narration was on this book. Bad grating accent attempts and nasally sounding female narrator. I shutter remembering. Yikes!

WHY???

One of the draws to this series was John Lane!!! WHY? WHY? WHY? ...Why Would you change up now with the LAST book in the series ? The one I was anticipating the most. This female narrator is okay but the male narrator was HORRIBLE! With this very annoying long breath at the end of EVERY sentence he spoke! Ugh! Why do you authors do this??? Love you Karina Halle but this was a tragic end to such a great audio series. Good thing the audible version was free with my kindle unlimited subscription but even with it being FREE it was still a DNF for me! For all you authors out there, a BAD narrator can RUIN your book so please be more selective when you are hiring these narrators! Karina Halle...I hope you are reading this...if John Lane was unavailable for book 3 at the moment you should have waited until he was...TRUST me we wouldn't have minded at ALL!!!
