Publisher's summary

Tina Swithin discovered that there is only one thing more difficult than being married to a narcissist, and that is divorcing a narcissist or someone with a high-conflict personality. In her book, Tina will explain how a smart, independent woman can fall prey to a narcissistic man. Tina discusses the red flag reflections that initially, she didn’t recognize as concerning while dating and during the marriage. When Tina’s plight to protect her children began, she was forced to act as her own attorney due to severe financial abuse. Through her nightmarish journey through the family court system, Tina discovered a flawed system that prioritized her ex-husband’s parental rights over her children’s rights to safety. Tina experienced repeated institutional betrayal at the hands of child welfare services, law enforcement, child custody evaluators, minor’s counsel, and judicial officers yet, she refused to give up.

Tina refused to accept that shared parenting or 50-50 custody arrangements were in her daughter’s best interest, and she set her sights on learning the system inside and out. Tina became a fixture in the courthouse and at hearings, studying high-conflict cases that were similar to hers, watching court proceedings, and talking to attorneys in the court hallways. A painful realization was that to the court system, her custody battle was just a business transaction and a case number. Through radical acceptance and with her growing knowledge of the family court system, Tina began to embrace the importance of being fueled by strategy versus emotion. Tina’s story is the story of one mom’s battle to protect her children in the patriarchal, antiquated family court system but her story is the story of thousands of mothers around the world.

Amazing strength, some editing issues

I thought the narrator was great to listen too. This title was just re-released right before I bought it and there are some issues with a few lines being repeated and I think a part of a chapter was repeated/duplicated as well. I am grateful to have the chance to listen to it despite the minor editing errors.
Tina is a warrior and tells her story with detail and in a way that is relatable and easy to follow. I grateful appreciated her sharing her experience, this was helpful for me to read in my current life situation.
I would highly recommend this to anyone in a stressful relationship to know what red flags to look for in the narcissistic way of thinking.

I am forever grateful for this resource & I will purchase the hard copy of this book for this amazing resources at the end. Thank you x a million, Ms. Swithin, for sharing your story and continuing the fight.

Phenomenal

Anyone going through anything even remotely similar to this author will know what she is talking about. It helps to hear the story from start to finish to understand the nuances of a narcissist and the chaos they bring while sitting back, acting calm and portraying to everyone else, you’re the one who’s crazy.

good book overall 👍🏿

I already have the second book, but wanted to listen in on this book first. it was a good book, but sometimes it was hard to follow specifically when there are moments when conversational dialogue occurred. Strongly recommend this book for those who want to move forward, but the unknown keeps them stuck. very informative.

Wow!

Tina, you spoke to my heart! Every word of this book was amazing. I have thought about writing my own book about the horrific battle I am in….. but I just finished reading yours and realized my story has already been written. Thank god some one not only had the courage to fight, but to speak up against this horrible abuse. Well written book. Thank you!!!!

Much needed advice!

As someone at the beginning of the process to leave a narcissist, this book served as a constant reminder why I have to move forward. Things will continue to get worse, and the hope they may finally change is not possible. I’m educating myself thoroughly, and Tina’s story helped me so much on the lonely nights without my son.

Recommended for the right people at the right time…

Other than the truly awful narrator for Glen (who I am sincerely hoping is not Glen himself, or I’ll take it all back!), the audio version of this book is great. The female narrator (who handles 95% of the book) is perfect for this story. Divorcing A Narcissist should be mandatory reading for all GAL’s, at a minimum!
