About this listen

Matt Smith and Clare Corbett read this exclusive audio adventure featuring the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond, with original music and sound design. When Lord Woolcroft and his team break open the fabled Tomb of Artemis, sealed for thousands of years, they are astonished by what they find inside...

The Doctor and Amy have come to Smyrna in 1929 to investigate a mystery. The Doctor knows that something very bad happened there: something that caused a lot of people to die and an entire, magnificent Temple to be found and then immediately lost again. But he doesn't know what is picking off the archaeologists one by one, or how it is connected to the terrifying howling in the night. And as he and Amy get closer to the terrible truth behind an ancient evil, he begins to wish he'd never found out. Written specially for audio by James Goss, and read by Matt Smith as the Doctor and Clare Corbett as Helen Stapleton, 'The Hounds of Artemis' features the Doctor and Amy Pond as played by Matt Smith and Karen Gillan in the acclaimed hit series from BBC Television.

A Hounded Adventure

What did you like best about Doctor Who: The Hounds of Artemis? What did you like least?

The story is very well written, and exciting to hear. However, the narration really hinders the heck out of the story. While Matt Smith brings his usual excited Doctor voice to the presentation, Clare Corbett RUINS the story. I didn't so much mind listening to her narrate, but it was so intermingled with Matt Smith that it was jarring and threw you out of the story every time she took over. On top of that, Corbett's voice for the Doctor was HORRIBLE! By attempting to give the Doctor a lower voice (I'm assuming she felt this was necessary because she's a woman?), she definitely ruins the character during her segments. Her Doctor's mannerisms are closer to the 10th Doctor then the 11th, and that just makes it more confusing.

What aspect of Matt Smith and Clare Corbett ’s performance would you have changed?

Matt Smith of course nailed his performance. As for Clare Corbett, no offense to the narrator, but it would have been better if she had just sat this one out entirely. She had NO understanding of the Doctor, and I question if she had ever even seen an episode of the series before.

Any additional comments?

I'm sorry, Clare Corbett, but again, why were you in this story?!

Not Bad!

Not Great but Not Bad. Fishfingers and Custard. That again! Matt Smith narrates this very well.

As a Whovian, it's hard to criticise Dr Who, but….

…this wasn't much about The Doctor, more his companion.
Only about 25% actually had Matt Smith as narrator. Whilst the other narrator was good, that's not why i bought the book.

Average, could of been so much better

I did enjoy the classic feeling story, though short, the plotline was interesting. I was left feeling irriated at the narration choices. It had Matt Smith in it; it should of nailed the performance of the Doctor, and indeed when Matt was speaking as the Doctor, it was good. But large chunks of the narrative were performed by Clare Corbett, including some of the Doctor's dialouge! It felt like two seperate recordings merged into one, Matt and Clare take turns rather than speak together.

Matt Smith and the Sound Effects Make It

Matt Smith's parts are amazing, the other bits I didn't care for, the idea of it being diary entries as well as the voice acting for different people was not well done from the lady who also narrated.

This book had me there with them the whole ride.

At times I forgot that this was a book, I honestly could feel the story like it was an episode. I could see the tapestry that Matt Smith was weaving with his amazing talent.

Pretty dull

Very basic Who adventure. Almost put me to sleep. Love hearing Matt Smith read The Doctor but less so hearing him read Amy, and it felt like he did a rather rushed job on the whole thing.
